Curious about Texas...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I keep mine with oscars they are all twice his size so he doesn't mess with them but the Con's and Female festae get it. He hates the male con and will chase him none stop. He keeps the female festae away but doesn't chase her. I had him in a 72 with a Green terror pair and they didn't mess with each other.

Lets see some pic's when you get him.

^ Thats great thanks! I keep hearing such great things about the Texas that I'm getting very excited now!

So far no news from either of the two people I tried to order them from. HOPEFULLY they'll get some news from one of the bigger suppliers soon. If not there is ONE ore avenue that I can try but I'll give this one a chance.

Update for all...

I managed to track down a texas, which will most likely be the escondido strain - so not the true texas I wanted but ok, at this point I might need to compromise.

The ones they are selling are very small about 1.5inches.
What I am wondering is will it be alright to put them into a 14g as a grow out till they get a bit bigger (as not to get eaten by my O's)?

Also, is there a difference in the escondido personality compared to the true tex?

cant really compare the personality of the two as they are completely different species. i think both would be your typical aggressive cichlid.

here my Carpintis

Well I was told that mine is a Carpintis. Will he look like that (^) when matured?

Beautiful fish! ... Looking forward to making this my next addition.

Does anyone know if putting them in 14g will be ok just till they gain some size?
Don't want to risk stunting...

If you have good water quality with plenty of water changes you shouldn't need to worry about stunting.
