Dainichi foods

I believe you are mistaken

fishmeal is a commercial product consisting of the waste from fisheries after the human-consumable material is removed, or from whole fish which are not suitable for human consumption.

NLS uses whole Krill and Herring.

So the fish meal that they use is different from all other fishmeal in the world, and is made from good, high quality whole fish? When all other fishmeal is made with left over fish and fish not suitable to humans?

Why is krill not as good for fish? I am sure if you talked to NLS people they would say that their's is best! If you talked to hikari their's is the best.

I agree that they are both good, but from everything I can find fishmeal products are considered before NLS and Omega One.

I have found these two to be the best in the opinions of most the people online.

Where did you get this info from? And why would NLS put krill in to all of their products and say feed exlcusively to your fish? Just wondering.

I see what Nic is saying. It would make sense that a strict diet of krill (an animal from salt water) would be bad for fresh water fish that would not normally encounter this food source.

However, I think that the minute amount of krill in the NLS/Hikari, pretty much all foods, is perfectly fine for the fish and isn't going to do anything to them. The whole point of my post was to get side by side pictures of fish who have been raised on Dainichi foods vs those who were raised STRICTLY on other foods. Frozen doesn't count, most people feed random frozen every now and then.

So to get this back on track, and to make a bit of a "comparison", let's have people post what food they're using, if their fish(ies) were strictly raised on that food +/- frozen foods, where they got the fish (LFS, breeder, etc) and then we can see for ourselves who's got some nice coloring in their fish. Obviously this isn't exactly a scientific test by any means, but it will be interesting to see.

NLS doesn't have any paid reps, beyond the inventor of the food himself, and I can assure everyone here that he has never stated such a ridiculous thing. I'm guessing that what Nic was told (or at least should have been told) is that IF one feeds their freshwater fish a food with an excessive amount of fatty acids that originate from marine fish, that it could cause fatty liver disease. The same is true if one feeds an excessive amount of fatty acids that originate from freshwater fish, to marine fish. This is obviously not the case with any NLS formulas, once the formula is blended with all other ingredients. The vast majority of NLS formulas have a total crude fat content of only 5%.

NLS use whole krill, whole herring, and whole squid, to make up the bulk of the protein found in each of their formulas.

South Antarctic krill is one of the cleanest forms of amino acids (protein) that the world has to offer. It's also one the most expensive raw ingredients. You can read more about this amazing raw ingredient in the following link. http://www.aquafeed.com/article.php?id=439&sectionid=5

The amino acid content in all NLS formulas is also balanced with Herring, and Squid, which of course are all blended with a multitude of other high quality ingredients.

I can't offer any side by side examples, but the fish featured in the following link all eat NLS exclusively.

Thanks RD for clarfying things and explaining. I've also spoken to Pablo and he's a great guy. What Nic said isn't true as what Pablo said. If that was true then I would've noticed negative effects on my fish as I've been feeding my cichlids NLS for years.

Oh, I see, so now it's only if krill is fed as a staple. Right .......

between talking to hikari reps and nls along with ocean nutrition this is the info ive been giving hikari imports true whole fish to make there fish meal.... krill as a main ingrediant is also not good for the primary meal for fish either...

actually the nls rep told me about there whole fish and confirmed what the hikari and ocean nutrition guys had told me.... omega one is the same according to them... hikari doesnt use the same formula and creates its own fish meal from solid fish fillets guts etc.. still on in the fish....

krill has negative effects on fresh water fish when fed long time.... fatty liver this was told to me by same reps and confirmed by zoodiver......

I'm about as close to an NLS rep as you will ever find, and whomever supplied you with the info that you have been posting regarding krill, and how their fish are collected/processed, etc, was plainly talking out of their azz.

Another classic example of how easily misinformation gets spread on the internet.
