David R's 2000L tank build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If then the only mechanical would be the Poret?!
Aren't you wasting up the open space instead of adding more bio media?
Yea pothos would be good. How about making it a bog kinda thing. Grow bog plants in there mebbe?
Just suggesting... :)

It's not a waste if it's not needed, there will be about 40L of bio media after the Poret, which will be doing bio and mechanical, and that will be more than enough for the amount of fish I'll keep. I think we often seriously overestimate the amount of bio media we need, the beneficial bacteria will grow according to the amount of ammonia the fish produce, not the amount of media available.

True that...

Sorry if I have missed about your stocking... Aren't the plec's going in here?

Very true regarding the amount of BB against the amount of media which is there.

My sump in one tank has hardly anything in it currently - because it has hardly any fish in, i'll keep adding stuff as the tank grows in fish.

Nice how you have the sump separate to the tank to take the noise out and the Geo's look glad to be in the big open space - i remember all the times i've upgraded a fish to a new tank, you genuinely can see the excitement on them which is just great to see

Hey david, I know its probably a bit premature, but any chance of a quick vid of your tank? I am a bit excited as I am planning something similar dimentions wise and plan in stocking it with geos so its kinda a window to the future :)

No problem, here ya go, as it looks right now;

(I still can't seem to get this embedding thing to work!)

The lighting is grossly inadequate, I tried taking a quick video with my phone but it was just grainy and yuck so I dusted off the 550D, only thing is I couldn't even make a quick film on the lowest setting without it being over a hundred mb.

I'm really looking forward to getting the arowana in there now!

Ah mate, absolutely superb. Those are some happy altifrons and I love the footprint. I get what you mean about the lighting but I think just needs some adjustment. When are you going to put the rest of the driftwood in?
That aro is gonna look amazing.

The wood from the 400L will go in when the plecs go in, and then I'll use the 400L tank to soak a few other pieces (if they fit!) and add it as it sinks. When that happens depends on work, I work on the railway so if my job gets cancelled it could be tomorrow, othwerise it might be next week some time (we're busy this weekend so no time for playing fish). There is an old quarry out in the middle nowhere on one of the lines I work that I need to stop at and check out for rocks, unfortunately I'm not on that job for at least another week...
