decorate this tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah the tank literally has one light on it lol. The other one burnt out. Sounds like this is a big investment. Trying to decide if that's better or waiting to redecorate a big tank. I guess I could always put the stuff from the 55g in the big tank.

Here's my clownfish tank I did a few months ago. Know it's not poly related, but I'd like to think it looks a little better than the 55g. Just wanted to share so you guys know my taste isn't completely hopeless. lol

I think you should try this... lol

that's really pretty. I would do Iwagumi, but I've never taken care of aquarium plants. Do polys like anubias, java fern, crypts etc? Heard the carpeting plants take a lot of work. Anybody have a Iwagumi style tank with polys?

There were more picture of his tank in google when i type aquarium bamboo leaves.
DMD123 DMD123 , porkchop probably has a facebook fan page.

I agree with most above. If you're upgrading next year, do the most important things. I personally would save my money for the large upgrade and get that sooner, rather than put a ton of money into this one.

Floating plants are cheap and easy and I think calm all fish, and they create a more dim environment that polys supposedly like. They also have a bonus of helping process ammonia. If you don't want to do all live plants, start with the water lettuce suggestion. You can get a portion of that for like $3 and it will continually replace itself / reproduce IME so that's a one-time purchase.

If you do want to do all live plants (that is my personal preference) you'd probably need a new light which wouldn't be cheap. For now, you could do the live floating plants, and then get some realistic looking silk ones. Then switch to low-maintenance live in the big tank.

If you're going to go to a sand/finer substrate in your big tank you could change this tank out now too. At least your gravel isn't flourescent. :)

Background is cheap. Do that today. ;)

It's actually kind of hard to see what's going on in the tank because of the background.

I would either add a black back round or paint it black.

Get rid of the gravel. You can get pool filter sand for cheap mix it with some peace river gravel and it will look pretty natural.
A few smaller pieces of dw... i like mopani because you can staxk them and make some pretty cool combos.

Thanks everybody for your input and advice!

Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 and magpie magpie , that is a great idea about transferring things from the one tank to the larger one!
background: Just ordered a tie dye background. Kidding. Getting, the blue/black background.

kno4te kno4te , any recommendations for the plants with long roots besides fresh water lettuce

J Jaws substrate: is Quikrete pool filter sand poly safe?
I see that is $10 at home depot. and then I could buy a 5-10 pound bag of peace river to sprinkle on top, if necessary?

DMD123 DMD123 , is peace river the substrate you use too? also do you get a kickback if I buy from Weco Wonders hahaah

Vancouver_98683 Vancouver_98683 , if I bypass the electric blue acaras, what "swimming" fish do you recommend? Want to get something that will swim around to have a good midlevel fish.

clm08k clm08k a pool filter sand from home depot is safe, just put it in the bucket and keep rinsing till the water gets clear. As for swimmers i recommend like a geo or the severum, but if you like a carnivore too that will grow 10" and be safe with the ornate i would get a african pike/odoe pike.
