how do you gravel vac something that's on the floor?

You just pick it up and set it on the couch. ;)

Could always use a 9.99 battery operated gravel vacuum.

theres already a glass table top on there I made it so it was impossible for the cat to get too i dont want cat hair and junk in the tank

On the subject of putting glass over it, have you given any though of ways to prevent condensation obscuring the inhabitants?

not sure what you mean by inhabitants me or the fish?? the condensation never gets past the rim of the tank but it does bubble up a fair bit on the glass

You will need to stock with fish that dont frighten easily and look good from above. There isnt a huge choice range but some corydoras catfish schooling or if you like larger fish then perhaps goldfish. Other posters may have some better suggestions.

oscars are very human friendly that was one i was considering but I have a friend who had a bad experience so im not too sure about them i like arowanas but they are apparently easily spooked i would like piranhas but theyre the same i donno what i can put in there with the blue lobster yet but i can put it in my other tank if need be any ideas on fish that are aggressive and not easily spooked ??? plecos are pretty chill ill probably have one of those in there i was looking at Polypterus as well for the bottom

newest thing on to do list while building light hood is moonlighting

I was using a fluval 404. Worked fine for a couple months, but would have to be cleaned constantly seemed like after a couple days the water flow would slow down, and I'd rinse the pads again, and after about 6 months the motor melted completly. Having it the same level also let air get into it. Better if you can get a smaller model that might sit lower than the water level. Mine was only slightly lower. I had to bump the pond height up to 6" above the ground and started running fluval Fx5s that have a pump at the bottom. I can't speak for other's expiriences on here, but that's mine. I ran one of the Fx5s on my 75 to get the bio started, and it kept that tank sparkling, and the monsterous waterflow didn't really effect my fish lol.

well I'm going filter shopping tomorrow so ill let you know what I come up with worst case scenario I buy one off ebay FX5s are expensive I wasnt planning on spending 2 bills on a filter my buddy ebayed a fluval 405 for under 100 bucks what are your thoughts on buying used canister filters??? should i be worried about the pumps remaining life?? what about other brands besides fluval anything that would be better when its on the ground like that? i'm a beginner so i figured id wait to tackle this but what about making my own how hard is it? then i could make sure the pump was low i can custom anything into that cabinet the way I want I could even design an overflow chamber where worst case scenario the water just over flows into the tank again almost like a custom aquaclear

that looks sweet :D if i were you, i would build a hood ... well not rilly... kinda like a border/ rim thing, and install light on the side so the wouldnt be in the middle when viewed from top, and then somehow, make the center/ top of the table, within the border/ rim thing , make it glass, and kinda pressing on the water surface ? o.O .... that way there wont be any condensation droplets , and you'll have a top that is clear and just like viewing from the side.... hope ya understand that o.O , but i bet that didnt make any sense at all, but thats my lil idea ^___^

finish the ply work so it covers the top and for godsakes get some different gravel
