Did this cop do the right thing?

There is nothing that says a cop cant punch. I know plenty of cops. As for those of you that say he shouldve done something else, its real easy to secondguess someone when you are the one watching a video. He was the one at the scene. He had a angry mob around him and he had someone else come up while he was dealing with the first woman. He didnt know if she or anyone else had a weapon or what her intent was. The punch was a warning. Pepper spray was not a good option. Plenty of non involved people were around, and if youve used it before you know, youll get some of it too. You think he wants to impair his own eyesight under those conditions. The only reason this cop should be in trouble is because he sucks at restraining a suspect. If my skills were that bad I wouldve punched her alot more.

Everyone wants to say hes trained for this and trained for that. really? whats the politically correct warm fuzzy kumbaya way to deal with two violent people while surrounded by an unruly mob? This guy was in a potentially life threatening situation. Give hime a break. Why arent you all appalled at the stupid behavior of the two women and the crowd?

I've watched videos of cops using pepper spray, in close quarters, the cops usually get themselves and other cops too.

Man i have a really big problem with loud, obnoxious, big T-shirt wearing people to begin with. This whole crowd of people really deserved an ass kicking.

so you would have jumped in? thats def not a smart move, even if its a family member. you risk getting shot, and if you survive the aftermath, a nice jail sentence. my life and my freedom is not worth defeding some punk kid who thinks they are above the law and got exactly what they deserved

- cop was giving a citation to somebody for jaywalking. apparently this area is notorious for jaywalkers and the school requested a cop to be on the lookout.

- he sees a group of girls jaywalking in the same spot so he calls them over and tells them to wait by his car.

- they immediately get all roudy, antogonistic, and start harrasing the cop.

- the girl in the black starts to walk away, so he tries to restrain her and put cuffs on her.

- somebody pulls out their phone and starts recording...

really ???? to sum my answer to this is, MOST COPS WOULD OF WAITED FOR ASSISTANCE BEFORE BEING SWARMED BY A MOB . I'm sure given his obvious inexperience he was SCARED out of his mine and after the situation was settled had to go home and change his diaper.

thats a little more helpful but nothing there really gives reason for him punching the girl besides his lack of experience and inability to restrain someone but then again given that he had so much trouble restraining the little girl the bigger one was a threat to his well being
