I brought this topic up because in my book it is a big deal and it is also my personal favorite subject of of interest and study. I'm really glad with the comments that came out here, you guys really have a good range of interest when it comes to this topic, and i to picked up some new tricks myself. Hopefully some day soon we can dig into this more and on a deeper level with a more interesting question. I look forward to you're input. Thanks again guys.

what % are people feeding other food with my midas i feeding about 70% hikari gold 15% veggie flakes 15% worms/ chopped cockles.

Boo... It's a discussion about what and the different reasons why not a debate about wether or not

Why should they get a varied diet?
They eat whatever they can get in the wild. They aren't hand fed pellets or live food. I think feeding this way is superior than feeding a single staple diet.

What is a varied diet? Anything. Pellets, live food. Earthworms, mealworms, supers, other fish, or Omega One fish food.

Better?

lol ok , Yes, but in my studies there are some down sides though to having heavily processed food as the base of a diet , by base i mean 50% or more, and my by processed i mean pellets. The iusses are similar to the differences found in dogs that eat raw diets and dogs that eat even high quality kibble or can diets. There are just some things that industries have yet been able to reproduce from nature and stick in a pellet without having some type of compromise. we should just to not to rely so much on them if we are to the fullest of their performance. Not saying this is something people must do , i'm just point out something we should all keep in the back of our minds.

Completely agree. The more real (live food) and the less processed (pellets) the better.

True but the reason i think it should be talked about more often is because unlike us, many of the up coming generations find it too difficute of a task and not many are trying to make it easier fro them so the issue still remains at large. most parents of " too be monster fish keepers" tell their little guppies that fish eat fish food which comes out of a plastic can and look like tiny dog food and then that's it. That and the parents still keeping fish in none compatible sized tanks are equally troubling issues for future of improving the hobby. just saying it should be a more common place discussion that could lead to small business popping up to encourage those positive actions.

Thiaminaise poisoning can make it hard for some fish, in aquariums... Oddball has a good thread covering that. Not that your wrong
