DIY 600 GALLON PLYWOOD BOTTOM AQUARIUM..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
And yes the 4th whole is the return just haven't gotten the chance to put it in yet. And the pipes are short for the first few months to cut down on water. And to make sure everything is working good. I will take your ideal on making one a bit taller. And I have a overflow Bulkhead with a 1 inch hole for when I do My drip system all the extra water will overflow into my drain. On a power outage the extra water will over into my drain . That's why I'm taking my time doing everything. I'm thinking ahead lol. Thanx for the good advice guys. I will use some.

I will use k1 and filter wool with 0 rings and maybe some lava rock

k1 and lava rock are the bio filter,, how do you plan on setting up the wool? i ask about the drain because i have mine set up the same way, lost power and even with the 1 inch drain it could not handle all that water at once and the barrels over flowed. my barrels are outside so i planned on if that happened it wouldnt be a big deal. another point is that when the barrels overflowed most of my k1 came out also so i am in the process of building some sort of net on top to prevent this from happening again... just think, you have (1) 1 inch drain but you will have (3) 1 in pipes feeding that barrel.. not knocking you just trying to help with the issues i have noticed on my build. (the link is in my sig.) btw here is my filter set up.

edit in the filter, i do not have updated pics but originally i had a 3/4 drain but made it a 1 in after the first power outage and it still was not enough to handle all the back flow from the tank

I will have to make it a 2 inch drain..

Looks nice by the way. The wool will go the same way you have yours on top. Just haven't had the chance to put the basket yet. I will double check everything before anything. Thanx for the support and advice helps alot. And I will do a net too. Had that in mind too

Thanks,, just trying to give some tips from my learning experiences, especially since we have the same basic set up. btw i know i do not have near the bio load you will,, but i love the filter and drip system, nitrates have not once passed 5 ppm

Nice build, the boyfriend is also messy with the purple primer, you should see the nice purple marks he left on the new vinyl flooring in the fish room when he knocked over the can!!

I couldn't tell from the pics, did you install ball valves on the return piping from the bulkhead fittings?

Yes just for the pump only

Cool, looks good and moving quick.
I think the issue you may have, if the systems power is lost, you'll dump a bunch of water, but when it kicks back in. If you lost to much to overflow, you may be running your pump dry as it may not reach all the overflows.

But looks awesome
