DIY Economic pond :)

Look for pond underlayment. Basically a heavy duty weed fabric. Sometimes called geo-textile, look for it in garden centers or nurseries that carry pond supplies. This will keep roots and rocks from punctures. A always, try to make the base as clean of sharp objects as poss. (IE sticks and rocks, etc.)

lol thats a damn good idea, yea the underlayment is sold here at lows for about 2dollars a linear foot x 12' so i can afford to do that

well i did find some free carpet on craigslist but im worried about that stuff wrotting and smelling bad and just being weird lol

I tried the same thing myself many years ago. After a few days, the sides collapsed in on themselves and the pool became a muddy mess. Be careful, there is nothing to anchor the sides in place.

Anyway, even though it didn't work for me, I'm subscribing to see if it works for you. Good Luck!

Good luck with the project! I have a teeny little 130 gallon pond, and I am making a 35 gallon planted "sump" for it - plant to stock it with fantails and shubs. I'll only do a few fish because I will have to overwinter them indoors in my climate.

Can't wait to see how yours pans out :)
