DIY Monster Canister Filter!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I tried that ball valve on mine, and anytime I adjusted the flow the lid would pop up ready to explode off.

This is exactly why you don't have the pump pressurize the DIY canister.

For all you using 5 gallon bucks for diy canister filters, use the gamma seal lids and never worry again. $8.00 w/o shipping at usplastics.com

What Zenzzo, do you only have the memory of a goldfish? Or are you still bitter about the last time I introduced your foot & mouth?:screwy:

I tested my version earlier today. I ran into one small leak but other than that it worked perfectly. I didnt even use a valve to purge just waited to put the lid on until it was almost full (may add the valve later anyway). Im ready for a full scale test tomorrow and im confident that it will be very successful.

the weak point that both you and I knew about. It was where I took a short cut to make the pieces I had work for the outlet. Im going to try to pick up a threaded piece I can use to sandwich it to create a better seal.

Schd. 80 PVC electric conduit fittings and 0-rings will work.
Also if you boil them till they get just soft enough to let you imbed a fingernail in the plastic, teflon the threads and crank them tight with the o-rings in place you'll have no leaks ...

There ya go again Qreo...
the filter didn't let go it was his Tank...

Fish Eat Fish, I'm truely sorry that you had such an issue with your tank. I wouldn't wish that on anyone, except maybe Zenzzo if he keeps trying to bug me.

I'm not trying to be an ass here, but some people in this thread have been giving you bad advice, I think out of ignorance. I understand that my comments came late for you, but for anyone else reading this thread in the future looking for ideas... SPEND THE $10 & GET REAL BULK HEAD FITTINGS! That's all I'm trying to say. That & Zenzzo likes to eat toe cheese. That's it.

Bulkhead fittings have a large flange that tightens against a flat rubber washer...
If you had tried this, instead of letting your verbal diarrhea get the best of you, you'd know that the radius of a 5 gallon bucket is too small to get a good seal, hence the o-ring and fittings suggestion...
See cookieBoy,
I have made all these mistakes already and I only speak out of first hand knowledge when giving advise...And bug you? HaH!!
I could give less than a care, I only made comment on your lack of reading before you posted your
"I told you so"...way to encourage DIY confidence...
By the way do you have any DIY projects that you have shared here?
**checks Oreos stats**
Hmmm I cant seem to find anything but 9 noob thread starts and various other noob comments...
Anyway heres to your superfluousness Oreo
Oh yeah and don't be a "richard cranium" huh?

some people just want to talk and tell more than help. Luckily most MFKers are not like this.

The oring fittings worked great. the original just silicone did not but that doesnt mean you were right

I was going to say this as well yesterday but decided to stay out of it. This is the exact reason why the DIY fitting will work.

Could you get it to seal? possibly, but then there would be much stress on the bucket wall that it could crack in a very short amount of time.

Oreo, what "BAD" advice was given? Lets see you give GOOD advice, the experts here with experience will compaire.
