Superstition?

About those fittings with O-rings... I hate to say I told you so but...

Come on guys! Seriously. Just order yourself some bulk head fittings. That's exactly what they are designed for. It's one thing to have a DIY project, but you guys are trying to reinvent the wheel here. It's like me saying I want to replumb my tank but I'm trying to use the drinking straws I have to make plastic tubing. WTF right?

I've used those electrical conduit fittings in a pinch, but long term for this kind of application they are no substitute for propper bulk head fittings. If you're going to do it at all, do it right the first time & get the right pieces.

Or have a headache if that's the way you want it. lol

that isnt re-inventing the wheel... they still serve the same purpose they have just found ways of making it out of different materials.

Did it break? crack? seal pop?

I think because the tank is old and the original silicone is still holding the ends together (even though I throughly resealed the inside) the sides bowed when fully filled and pulled apart a seam of silicone. I cant think of any other explanation. It test filled fine and held water and my fish for a day and then just started pouring water out of the rear bottom molding. Im going to pull the whole thing apart and completely reassemble the thing and then let it sit full in our garage for a week.

Daaaang Bro,

100 gallons of suprizes sux,
I hope the damage was minimal...
Good call on ripping apart the canister for a save to the drywall.:headbang2

So what actually happened to the 110g anyway?

It did suck. Especially because the leak was from the bottom. No matter how much water we got off the floor there was always twice as much to replace it until we got the whole tank drained. It caused a GFI to switch which took us awhile to find as it was hidden behind the water heater. But it didnt really cause any damage which is good.

What are you talking about?!?! the filter was working fine. The only thing I was worrying about was how I was going to position the inlet hose so as to not suck up every fish in the tank with the crazy flow it had. Then the tank crapped out on me and in desperation I riped the filter apart to save my basement :(

I think that you lied when you said "I hate to say I told you so but..." because it seems to me you were so excited to say so that you didnt even read the posts :screwy:

Eh don't worry about him Bro...
He was just waiting to dis, as you stated...
pretty funny huh?
I think that you scored a 100% just for having the sack to attempt it, and it worked too? All the better...

Hope you can get your 110g fixed, and get it online soon...:headbang2

yea thanks. Although I did get the filter to run and actually work...it
REALLY deformed the lid with suction...so although it worked I would not trust it in my current basement. However in the fall I will be moving into a new house where there is an all cement room with a floor drain. This is when I will revive the filter and maybe up the canister size so I can filter a small play pool (pond) project I have in mind.

I ran into the same thing...all you have to do is put a ball valve on the pump outlet, adjust it, and it won't suck the lid down as much...;)

I tried that ball valve on mine, and anytime I adjusted the flow the lid would pop up ready to explode off.
