There in lies the problem...Proper care & feeding, not breeding and no release.

Point of order: Snakeheads... were released into the wild...By a food market, not even a poor aquarist.

The Laws are not just for us, they're for everyone.

I don't want someone ruining the trade because of their stupidity, ineptitude and bloated ego's.

I'm all for licensing and certification. If I'm going to care for these specialty fish, I have no qualms about proving I can do so. Been there, Done that...wore out the t-shirt.

End of snitching problem.

And Oddball :iagree: .

:iagree:

i'm just saying I wouldn't run to the police and say "Hey! some guys keeping an illegal fish! arrest him!"

Was wondering how you feel about it..I know a person who sells piranhas in a state that prohibits piranhas but I will not go snitching on him..Some people will thou..And to me, it is just fish, really no harm..But some people are trying to save the world by snitching..

I think you have missed the whole point behind the law. It isn't about making you have a bad day or other people telling you what you can or can't do. The law came about because of what people do as a result of human nature, and the effects that those actions are wreaking on the native species and environment.

Piranhas and snakeheads are the crown jewels of the restricted species laws because where they survive they take over their environment (snakeheads especially). Piranhas are bad enough on their reputation alone and in areas that have a large tourist economy, rumors of them in the waterways could be enough to cost the state billions.

The problem is that for every ten people that purchase fish, nine will think that the proper way to dispose of them when the appeal wears off is to release them into the wild. Florida is overrun with nonative species of plants, animals, and aquarium fish. Not that it bothers me, but it is an excellent example.

As for your fixation on snitching, if it is a victimless crime...ain't nobody gonna care. Other than that...I'll tell on yer asss :D

chompers got it spot on (almost) a lot of laws are there when concerns of keeping wildlife are because they are considered dangerous, would be a pest if they were introduced into the wild and/or threaten other wildlife, or because the animals are endangered. admittadly some animals are banned in some places for none of these reasons (some people would say for no reason), but law is law. i would discourage anyone from owning an illegal pet (or a pet needed to keep with a liscence without a liscence) just because when someone gets caught, restrictions only get tougher and regulations are tigher making it harder and harder for keepers that do keep liscenced animals or people trying to get somewhere in uplifting bans in a sensible solution. for actually "snitching" i've always taken the view its none of your business unless keeping it is causing dangers to others or itself (when keeping it poorly)

I think chompers and Davo are on the same level with the way i think about it.. but snitching on something of so little importance .... one illegal fish type or another being owned and well cared for by someone would have no bearing on my life or on anybody else's life .. and would be a petty pathetic jealousy to snitch about...and this side of human nature i would hope i was a better then that. I quess this is where good old common sense plays a part..if it is not hurting anything, mind your business!

I don't think it's really our place to judge somebody if they do "snitch". Isn't that what we all, as good Samaritans are supposed to do anyway? Snitch when somebodies breaking the law.

someone stalk fica until he does something wrong and get him sent to jail please. cheers
:)

Some of you might feel differently if you fell off your water skis in a lake in Florida and pulled up a mess of skinless metatarsals(feet) because some *** released piranha.

well for me it depends. like say if someone is selling a natural plant product or fish its kool with me. but if it deals with injury, death or damages i will snitch. but i will try to deal with it privately before snitching.

Justin do you have records indicating that pirahna have caused human fatalities in their habitat? Last time I checked those records indicate a big goose egg....Last I heard from Dr. S sh's in fl have had no blunder on the native species. here and they have been established for a good while. I still catch hefty LMB's around and i have caught them along side sh and pbass (another man made introduction) even if the pbass was done on good intention ... it still has competed alot more with the LMB for food than any cobra has..... yet noone cares to talk about that because the GOVT did the introduction so its ok ? Hmmm thats little hypocritical if you ask me. Lets stop pointing the fingers at eachother as keepers here and blame the one party that was reponsible for blowing things out of proportion and thats the media...... let me ask you people when was the last time you heard about people talking about walking cats????? Remember those were introduced here too. How about oscars? Salvini? Jags ? Geos? all introduced and all still being sold at our petcos and pets marts? Why dont we single those species out too ? Because the media didnt give a **** about those they only cared about the ugly ass snakeheads....

:)

i probly wouldn't tell on that guy just cause when they confiscate the fish they might just kill them, but i saw a lady a week ago ram in to a parked car and drive away, i wrote down her licence plate number and told on her ass. i hate people like that.
