Does anybody actually

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ususally, what i do is go to the LFS, ask them questions about a certain fish, go home and research it on the web, make sure all is well, and go back in the next few days and pick it up

i research everything extensively. then I ask the same questions to all of you to make sure I have my info correct. I use books and the internet.

i always research fish i'm interested in, even ones i don't own or won't own, read lots of articles on aquaria on the web and some books

when i do buy something new, i do further research and reread what i already did on the species to make sure i know everything i need to

I would disagree w/ you. I know that we need to start small. But i think going big is good. Atleast, big tanks are more stable than the small ones. Maintaining small tanks are very hard. All the parameters flactuate. Not like in a big tank. Very stable. I for one never had a big tank till last yr. And i was scared, but when it started runnig, never had any headaches w. it. And never had any death yet(knock on wood).

In addition to knocking on the wood, you should soak it thoroughly to remove the tannins. I read that on some site about aquariums and predatory fish.

I like to research then ask questions I have already found answers too, especially when I have found contradictory info. I also think that forums like this, where you can get first hand experience from people who have kept/worked with a fish you're interested in, are one of the best types of research. They can be a source of misinfo. though too, so you have to be smart enough to filter out the bs.
