"Asian red tail"
Currently:Hemibagrus whychiodes but was, and will be found in most books as Mystus nemurus.;)
it also had the name mystus wyckioides, they changed the name to hemibagrius wyckioides, but never have i seen the fish labeled as nemerus, but then i never read that in books

very nice :headbang2 u should deffo go for it man (and in the uk aswell)

and the silly bugger who said the south american RTC is nicer lets not be silly lol :screwy: (maybe its just me)

Maybe when i have a couple of hundred gallons spare, won't be for a while now me thinks! Chances are the fish will still be there anyway.

Does make me wonder where my Catfish book got it's info if everyone's experience with this fish is overly aggresive, species tank only.

They found something it'll live with!!!!!!

Bloody Terrapins!!!!!!!!!!!! They knocked up a pre-moulded pond indoors for the little shelled nutters and put the big artc in with them and they're all doing great:) Looks good too, just not my kinda thang. The guy said they had put a similar sized TSN hybrid of some kind in with it about a month ago and they were fine for about a week until the artc treated himself to a bit of shovelnose dinner one night. I'll try to think of taking camera next time if anyone's interested.

I don't know why all the confusion. The species nemurus was was first published in 1840 so if the book you have doesn't list it then it needs to be updated. fishbase.org list 33 species under hemibagrus. I've seen many different species on this site that people claim to be an artc that were actually not wyckioides as they had thought during purchase. Most end up being nemurus. Nemurus is not inheriently albino. That is a gene that is bred into most fish. Once an albino is found they inbreed in order to maintain that trait. Nemurus has long filiments on it's dorsal fin. Wyckioides does not. Wyckioides grows to 52" and nemurus grows to 26". Wyckioides was described in 1949. So if anything nemurus came first. Not trying to burst any bubbles, just thought I would put some facts out there. Interesting to note that nemurus has 2 dorsal fin spines, and wyckioides has only 1 like the vast majority of catfish species.

and wyckii was described in 1858. Don't even know how that one got brought into this, but I wish I could own all 3 lol.

The one you posted pics of is 100% without a doubt wyckioides. Look at that dorsal fin. There's only one hard dorsal fin spine, which eliminates it being nemurus. Plus the other features just don't match up. Good luck if you get that beast!
