Your views are narrow minded. Terrorisum is a great example. By their prospective they are in the right. Doing good. By ours they are evil. It's the extreme difference in perspective that makes it a good example. And as for the 3 basic things all humankind want. You obvisoly have never heard of the Maslow's hierarchy of needs which is what everyone in the world wants. Before those are achieved there can not be life, liberty, or the pursuit of happiness. In most developing countries this is none existent and yet they aren't evil in my opinion.

Please don't be condescending (Smile). Maslow's Heirchy of Needs? I remember that from a freshman sociology class that I took many years ago. Maslow's pyramid and theory can be applied to any society. It's not limited to 1st world or developed nations. I recall my freshman sociology professor giving examples of people who have achieved the highest level of self actualization. My professor used a little Indian man who wore a diaper as his primary example of a self actualized person -- Ghandi. He also used Mother Theresa as another example. India is a developing nation. It's not only about wealth or material goods. Most of us will never be self actualized.

Wow this thread blew up since i posted it. It is actually very interesting to hear everyones views and getting deep into it. I keep thinking about it and have no clue where i stand. I feel like some things are destined to happen but others arent. I dont understand why certain people are made how they are. I mean what makes lebron james different than say a kid from a third world country? Why lebron and not others?
I guess what i am getting at is that some are born into different surroundings and already know how they are destined to turn out, but its up to them to decide how they want to

I'll tell u what makes lebron different. The opportunities in America. When I was backpacking through south America I stopped at a few orphanages along the way and played with the kids. Damn let me just say some of them poor lil kids are amazing at soccer. Like 10yr olds that could prob school some college level athletes lol.

Soccer is a horrible example to use in comparision to american sports and society though. If you take away all our options and money, most of us athletes would play soccer as it's one of the few sports that all you need is a ball as you can make your own goal posts anywhere.

All other US sports are more complex with required equipment...the lone exception being basketball as here in the US you'll find basketball hoops everywhere but you won't else where. This also could be why there's so many black basketball players.

Lebron, simple, DNA and a nice support system where he was able to only worry about maintaining his grades and playing bball and football. He wasn't born into say....a farming family....or a third world country. If he were, he may have never gotten the opportunity to discover basketball and may have conquered another sport. It's one of the reason i don't believe everything happens for a reason. Opportunity has to be there, not everyone will get the opportunity to do many things for various reasons. So you're absolutely right, lebron had opportunities here

A great example would be people born into royalty or money. Talk about being dealt a great hand.

No. Actually I think this is informative and enlightening discussion being able to hear others perspective views of the world. But mods normally shut things down when religion gets heavily discussed I was just trying to steer the convo away from that sense our religious and cultural views inevitably define our views of good and evil

Yeah, see the problem is, whether you believe or not, this question is inherently a supernatural one. We are asking the question if there is something going on outside of ourselves and our knowledge, that is excersizing control, yet we have to have the discussion without any mention of the key vehicle(s) (meaning religions) that claim to know the answers to the question.

We are having a dog fight with one of them wearing a muzzle.

Pardon the "fight" reference, that wasn't meant to reflect the nature of the discussion, just an analogy.

I wasn't trying to say that 10yr olds were better in sports than Americans. I was just trying to point out that there are incredibly talented people out there that will never amount to anything but working in a common job just because there is no opportunities for them. Who knows there might be a kid in south Africa that could cure cancer.

Interesting point. Look at the drop of African-American players from baseball, but look at the large influx of Latin players from developing nations. We also know that baseball equiptment is expensive, when compared to basketball or soccer. We also know that in Latin nations, next to soccer, baselball is a national sport. There are many variables . . .

Phillydog Im assuming u went to Kansas state? Jw sense it seams like it's normally impossible to have a intelligent convo on here with all the lil kids...unless I'm wrong and ur a smart high schooler. Lol. Sorry for the derail jw.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness can be achieved without achieving self actualization on Maslow's Hiearchy of Needs. Maslow understood that there are steps that most of us take along the path of life. His hiearchy of needs merely shows the various levels of accomplishment. The poorest man in a Amazonian tribe is alive, free and attempting to be a happy human being. That Amazonian tribal man has achieved a livelihood and is sustaining his life, he's liberated and free and he's making every effort to be a happy man because, happiness is not guaranteed.
