does the law stop you from buying fish?

Why don't animal officers bust Asian markets for their horrible stocking tanks, for the animal cruelty, not to mention the fact that the fish are often illegal Tilapias?

They do. The last case I read about was of a restaurant owner that had a snakehead as a business mascot. It was a full adult that he'd owned since it was a baby. When a state ban went down (before the federal ban), agents came and issued him a citation, a fine, and an order to destroy the fish. I think he found relatives in a non-restricted state that took possession of the fish. But, the case made it into the papers due to the legal battle this guy had to go through in court over a single fish he'd kept all its life.

jail time isnt worth it to me and it happens on the left coast...notably with fish with sharp teeth

does the law stop any of you from buying the fish that you want? it wouldnt stop me, cops arent going to come in your house and look at your fish and be smart enough to know which ones are legal or not.

if i kept ileagles, the cops wouldn't give a s*%$, the only people who would give a crap is the DNR and they don't exactly have a swat team. plus if the cops wanted me I'm sure they could find something better then fish to take me out on.

OK, so i don't know any thing about arowana, which ones are Asian arowana?
i'm wondering because there's a pet shop around here that always has silver arowana, and once in a while they get green and red ones.

i own what i want, buy what i want. i've had cops at my house and they couldn't tell the difference. rbp's i told em they were pacus. stingrays i told them i converted them to fresh from salt. n they didn't even kno that the gars were illegal in cali.

and asian aros would be the green or red ones. silvers are silvers, weird brown ones are usually jardinis. and colorful ones are asian aros.

i think i found a loophole in my states laws. it says museums aquariums and universities can have illegal fish.maybe ill get some rays and leve them a UTPB

the typical police officer wouldnt know a Dat from an Oscar but wildlife officials would. Although the risk of getting caught would be miniscule unless your blackmarket breeding illegal fish, you just have to go by whether or not a huge fine and possible jail time and not to mention a criminal record is worth keeping a fish or not.
To me its not, theres tons of beautiful fish out there to choose from.
And i personally dont want a criminal record or fine for something as stupid as housing an illegal fish. Not to mention what happens to your fish if you get caught.
But to each thier own, risk vs reward right?

Definitely not. The law doesn't stop me from alot of things but keeping illegal fish is definitely one that I won't do. The DEC has ultimate control. One of the only police that can come into your house without a warrant!! They have to make sure that our ecosystem is not ruined by animals that are not native to our country.

go into some place to get a job and they see you have a record they ask what you did you say oh well i had a fish that wasnt kosher in this state.i bet you would get hired anyway.

i think no one but Parks and Wildlife gives a hoot.
