Why are Eheims Better?
1. Self Priming
- ??? which one? my pro II has this big button on top that gets stuck in the down position, is that it?
2. The Quietest filter ever, period, bar-none!
- yes they are quiet, but my fluvals are always silent too
3. Proven to be better than Fluval in the efficiency of Biological filtration.
- is this with equal flow rates? capacities? cost?
4. Warranty is 3 years, unheard of with any other filter.
- irrelevant if no part actually falls under their warranty, such as a bad motor or faulty thermostat.
5. I am in Socal farther from Eheim than you and dont have any problems getting parts, even though all Ive needed was gaskets which is clearly stated in the manual needs to be replaced at certain intervals.
- everything ships first into eheim canada, yes I am closer, but if they do not stock the part, it is irrelevant
6. Tubing and optional installation sets on Eheim is far superior in quality.
- okay :)
7. Visible flow indicator on the Eheim lets you know when to clean them.
- handy!
8. Uses half the electricity.
- this we need proof, a 205 @ 180gph is 10watts

Thats off the top of my head! If you do simple maintenance ie,. lubricating the double tap, and applying the grease they provide to the sealing ring and primer head once a year they are trouble free silent and very efficient. Sorry you have had problems, but I sent you a pm offering parts to you if you need them!

I am just saying that they do not warrant the excessive price tag, that is all. Hagen has always stood behind their products, whether I call in for parts/complaints or the end user does, they always rectify the situation immediately.

^^ I am willing to bet the customer service experience difference between you two has much to do with your locations.

tank125 - Connecticut
VS.
T1KARMANN - London UK

You are dealing with two separate service centers.
Good observation! I know that when I had issues with my double tap connector eheim was not helpful and big als online was even less helpful. I had to pay cash money for a new one that was irritating but at this moment my only irritant with these filters. It does do a great job at keeping the water crystal clear.

sorry double post

yes, you got me, 3 times I have managed to snap those nipples by moving a hose. = b.s. design flaw.

but I did not break the motor on the pro 3, the seals on the pro 3 (6 months!), the thermostat for the 2128 thermal, the seals on 2 2128's (8 months use).;)
I hate the double taps too! We can relate on that one.:)

jerry jerry jerry--------------sounds like a jerry springer show here

I am through with that garbage brand
No, please don`t hold back..tell me what you really think.

As some one who doesn't own a Eheim, but does own 2 FX5's I find this thread very informative and entertaining. I don't own an Eheim because they are not only hard to find unless you have a Big Al's around,(nearest one is over 2 hrs away.) they are pretty expensive. I always wanted one or two of the big ones but never did find/get one. This is the first negative feedback I have ever heard of for them. It's good to know that nothing is perfect of fool proof when it comes to the hobby. I do know that T1KARMANN has about 15 or so running on his insanely heavily stocked stingray tank chock full of Leo's.;)

W used to have those too, but they kept breaking down! We have Flu-val (think that's how it's spelt!) and they haven't let us down yet!

You've had bad experiences with the products clearly, a lot of people on here swear by their canisters as the best. I hate juwel powerheads I suppose it comes down to luck after all. A bad run can put you off anything

True, we never have any luck when it comes to the pumps! The mentioned are so easy to breakdown, and they're not strong enough to filter the 6ft! Fluval never lets us down!
