obviously no one on here owns a 2028/2128, the "double tap unit" is the part that the hoses connect to, the nipples break very easily. the plastic is very thin at the base and if you torque the hose at all you will snap the nipple at the base. this is fine, plastic breaks, so what, but when you cannot get the part for months, what is the point in fixing it?

I have had to order parts from Ehiem twice (due to my own carelessness ).. I am in the US too. I got the parts within 4-5 days, not months. Just go to the Eheim website. They might even have an option to overnight (I forget). Sure, it sucks to pay about $10 in shipping for an $8 part, but it gets there pretty quick. IIRC, my stuff was mailed from Canada.

I don't own an Eheim or a Fluval, but I can say it is easier and cheaper to get a Fluval part vs an Eheim part. My local retailer also says it is hard to find parts too and he also said that Eheim is the best, so he isn't very biased... Personally, I'd go pick up an Fx5, though, I'm running a big pond so I don't really have a need for one...

3. Proven to be better than Fluval in the efficiency of Biological filtration.
7. Visible flow indicator on the Eheim lets you know when to clean them.
8. Uses half the electricity.
buuuullllllllllll sh¡t.

PROVEN to be better than fluval at biofiltration? Ballsy claim to throw out there without a source.
The only possible difference would be media or oxygen, and you can just buy eheim media for any other canister filter if it's better. I also doubt eheims do anything to aerate the intake water.

Visible flow indicators are almost always a waste of time.

Half the electricity, eh? Prove it.

I have had a pro 2 up and running for over 10 years no problem. Quite honestly almost no maintenance. The old round fluvals had only one problem that getting them to seal is a huge pain in the ass. As far as seal failure I have only had a problem with this if I did not coat the seal in Vaseline when I started it, Eheim used to provide it now they don't. Same for both Fluval and Eheim it's mater of rubber care not MFG. Also seal life will depend on your water, salt vs fresh, hard vs soft, acidic vs basic, etc.

As far as starting them up as long as you make sure your return tube is empty by draining it into a bucket they both start on the first try. I even have a UV sterilizer on the output of both my fluval and eheim.

I'll be using both the FX5 and a PRO3 on my 265 as the FX5 has a bottom drain, slap a solenoid valve on the out and water changes are automated. Something Eheim used to put on filter but stopped:screwy:.

As far as cost the difference is no longer that much at foster smith Pro3 $379 and FX5 $339. Back when a 404 was less than half of the pro 2 I'd agree that it might not be worth it.

A cursory glance:
eheim 1700lph, 30w, 57 lph per watt, 4.5 lph per dollar.
fluval 3500lph, 50w, 70 lph per watt, 10.3 lph per dollar.
... k....

I can see how quality is nice, but I can't see how the fluvals are "low quality" and I would not be able to justify paying twice as much for eheim.

why wait till you need a lid seal before ordering one ,, ??
get one now and keep it in a safe place knowing it will be needed one day , all filters wear the lid seal eventually ,,
