Dorm tank or no dorm tank...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sounds like it will be a pain in the ass especially if it is under your bed. How are you going to clean it? How are you going to get water into it? Moving fish is not as easy as it sounds trust me I had to move my 65 gallon.

I don't even live in a dorm I have a house and it was still a pain in the ass. Moving the tank took up about 10 hours even though I was only moving about an hour away. It will not be fun. My ten gallon was so much easier to move and it is a lot easier to clean.

You are being way too optimistic about what you want to do, either change the species you want or wait until you have a better setup. If you actually go through with this, personally, I feel it will be a very immature move and risky for your fish and your education. You seem to like being on the Dean's list and having a scholarship, once your classes get hard, are you willing to lose that for fishkeeping? Or losing your fish to keeping up with school work?

I can move a max of a 75 myself so thats prob the smallest I might go. But yeah, I have a while to decide.

As for cleaning, the space I have is almost 5 feet tall, and as long as I have 2 feet or so to go I can clean it :D And when it comes to moving tanks, it's not too big of a problem for me I do it for a side job with tank cleaning etc.

The main reason I am aiming for this tank is due to the hours upon hours of free time I have daily. I mean i go to classes 4 hrs a day, and study and whack out homework in no time. As a college sophomore I am not too worried about this effecting my studies, if anything it will help calm down the room.

Stocking so far is as follows:
~Silver aro or 2
~TSN
~TSN/RTC hybrid
~Juruense

On the possibility list are:
~Jardini instead of the silver
~Silver Dats (3 or so)
~Poly. Ornatapintis (3 or so)

All of these will start as babies and yes I know these guys put on hella size. I'm still deciding whether or not to put one of my flowerhorns from my breeding stocks at home in this tank. I have too many to choose from.

You still didn't tell us what you're thinking of keeping?

Missed the post above guys :D lol

Sorry :) lol That is a load. maybe just one fish in the 75. Go with the aro for luck in college...

That was actually the point of the aro, luck and prosperity. My Asian background should help enhance that aro luck :D

To help keep the water params stable I am gonna hop a fluidized sand bed like I have on my bare bottom tanks at home to make the biological levels a little stronger. Any other ideas?
