Dovii Tankmates?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Very well stated, to just say that dovi will not accept tankmates is uninformed, and ridiculous. Then when presented with actual proof, to consider it a "fluke" is just pitiful. I am more likelely take advice from a fellow fishkeeper, that has had the species than an internet expert who gets all his knowledge second hand, from the internet

i have a 4" dovii in a community tank and it is already evident that at some time in the future, he'll be wanting a majority of that tank just for himself (7x2). I think in a 10x4 an adult specimen could be housed with other big fish in a community style setup.

in your case eric you'll have to either go a solo dovii or keep one in a community setup then part with it after 6 months or so... or the rest or the fish depending on how attatched you get to it :)

My 265g has a 13.5" Dovii, three 9" Indo Datnoids, six 5-6" Clown loaches, a 15" Weeksii, a 14" Ornate, a 10" tinfoil barb, 6 spotted silver dollars, a redhook SD, and a pair of Filament barbs. I had to take the Grammodes out.

nice "fluke" balton

no tank mates, females maybe?

if you do a heavy ass community, i think you can pull it off.
but the dovii will pick on a fish he finds to be on his terf.

from what i noticed from keeping a dovii in a community anyway.

i never kept him til he got big though, but eventually he's gonna crack skulls.

Find the right dovii and it might work. Like has already been said on here each fish has a different personality. I found mine by watching it for a good while on several trips to the LFS to see how it behaved around it's Cichlid Tank mates then went and bought it when it seemed placid enough.

My Dovii is sharing with a Jaguar Cichlid, RD, GT, 6 RED HOOK SD's, several different types of large catfish, etc and is not a bother at all. I'm still keeping an eye out for sudden changes in him though. Really need to find out the personality of the fish if you want to try tank mates.

Cheers everyone.

I think the first measure would be to see if GreenTerra want's to part with his little gem.

Seems like it's just trial and error. I won't be too disapointed if he is a grumpy bugger who wants to be alone, but it'd be better if I could fluke it...

Cheers, Eric.

 I was just showing that every fish is different to the peeps who say you can't keep anything with a Dovii. He's a glass banger and cichlid killer but so far so good with these tankmates. He chases the SD's and barbs but they're smaller and more manuverable than he is.
