Lol so im not the best at giving advice but i have always been a shoot first ask Q later kinda of person it has worked for me so far but yes sooner or later it will back fire on me.

Hello; Perhaps a read of a current thread on this forum titled "at waht point is a standard foundation not enough" fits with the discussion of this thread. It appears from the initial posts that a forum member has a 300 gallon tank in a rental and that has caused the corner of the house to sink. (Not clear if the tank weight is the only issue as there was a mention of rain affecting the house.) It also appears that they want to add a 700 gallon at some point (Not clear if the plan is to have the 700 in the same house.)
At some point the place will have to be fixed. The renter ?? The owner?? So the next time the owner rents a place, a rule against all tanks is made. Seems to me that it is better to follow the landlord's wishes up front or find a different place.

You know what ticks me off? people who don't think things through before starting a project and then think they can return all the opened merchandise to the store. Where I work (small computer shop) if you buy parts and then want to return them for no good reason other than they weren't the right part or you changed your mind we slap a 30% restocking fee for being a pain if we let you return the stuff at all.

and when your gonna start a new thread to rant you need to be clear and not just ramble on about how your mad and it's everyone else's fault, what happened?

Did we ever find out why he cant have the tank? He just up and vanished...lol

Hello; Yes it would be good to know more, the OP has been silent of late. We have been guessing and commenting on those guesses. OP if you do not mind, please update us.

sorry to leave you guys hanging. I have been on vaction. So when I lived with my parents they were cat fans and nothing else. So what could I do. A couple years down the road the cat died and I was like can I get a fish tank? Answer...NO. 3 years went by and I moved to an apartment where pets are allowed. I was excited to be about to get myself a fish tank and fish. I made all the right calls to the apartment managers asking if I was able to have a tank and so on. Everything was cool and I was good to go. they told me that I was able to have a tank no larger than 60 gallons, which was fine for me. So I started planning what I wanted, did a **** load of research and asked a lot of questions (some on this site). Saved money to get a good size tank to start off with, and all of the other accessories that I would need. Went out and bought the stuff, besides the fish. Had a friend come over to help me carry it in and set it up (he was more experinced than me). Woke up the next morning checked the tank, eveerythign was good.

Got to work and then I got a phone call. Apparentlly was of my lovely neighbors called up and complanted about the size of the tank (60 gallons). It had to go or I had to go. I told them that it was a 60 gallon tank. They told me that they didnt realize how big a 60 gallon tank was. So I had to return everything.

trust me, i did all the thinking that was needed.

That sucks....my only suggestion to you for next time is to have it in writing. Had a landlord do this to me one time.....in the lease it stated no pets but landlord was a cat lover and had one the whole time he lived there. When I inquired about getting a kitten for our son he said that since we had already made a pet deposit that it would be fine. A week later we have picked up a kitten, have it in the house and the landlord calls me and states his wife didn't like the idea so it had to go. Since no pets were allowed in the lease, that is what I had to go by, not the verbal agreement. So, next time...get it in writing before you purchase. Sorry to hear about you having to get rid of your tank though.

When it comes to landlords its all touch and go. I had a great one who was like, do whatever it will be sweat but I've had another that didn't want anything to do with monster tanks. I bought a house to resolve this problem.

In your post, you state that your beighbor complained about the size of the tank.....Why would a neighbor care?

Do you mean your landlord?

I guess I don't understand. A 60 gallon tank is pretty small. You can't even put a Midas or something of that nature in there.

Now I hope all the people who were talking smack feel at least a little bad. Kind of one of those things of talking about somthing that you don't know what your talking about. Sorry for your luck buddy.
