It just happened for around 10seconds.. pretty big for this area(but not big)
I live in San Jose, CA the (408) area. or zip code 95120

anyways, I am afraid that my tank would slide off the stand since the width of it is the same exact length as the tank is..
and i don't have any rims or anything around the top of the stand..

or will 400lbs(40gallon tank) of weight stay on a stand even in a earthquake..i think 5.6?

Hey dude, I felt the earthquake today, too! Man, it was scary, I felt everything shake.

I would THINK so Yes but for a differant reason. Acrylic tanks have to have a solid base on the top of the stand and I think that would give then an advantage in a quake. I HAVE seen acrylic tank seams fail in a quake however.

I think all bets are off when the earth starts sliding around.

There is no way that it can survive a fall off the stand. It may be more break resistance but no possible way it will not break if it fall off the stand.

I have heard 10x stronger than glass.....

Well....an acrylic tank IS stronger in some ways than a glass tank but weaker in others...certianly not 10X stronger...

Need proof? Take a close look at an acrylic tank and a glass tank. The acryllic tank requires MASSIVE top bracing to keep from distorting. A glass tank will hold far more weight placed on TOP of it than an acryllic tank.

The Impact resistance of acryllic is far greater than glass and that might be what your thinking about...

Can an acryllic tank survive a fall off of a stand while full of water?

I know of several large acryllic tanks that didn't survive a fall to the ground from a PU tailgate EMPTY...so I'd have to say...no.

It wont shatter the way a glass tank would but it will break...

there was a video of a tank in an earthquake and water was splashing but i dont think the tank moved.
anyone know where that vid is?lol
I saw that video I think it was taken in japan and it was a saltwater tank if I'm not mistaken.

this is why I love florida. Nothing but hurricanes. And tornados. And lightning storms. And...
