You actually can to an extent. Blue gene jack dempseys tend to have more spangles on the body that normal jacks. This isn't 100% but can work.

Actually you can't, which is exactly why it's not 100% accurate. Some Jack Dempseys has more color, more sprangles, more whatever than other Jack Dempseys - the species is highly diverse, and comes in so much diversity. The amount of sprangles on a JD has no relation to whether or not it is a BGJD or a normal JD, which is why whilst sometimes a BGJD has more sprangles than a normal JD, sometimes a normal JD has more sprangles than a BGJD. Simply because it has nothing to do with the presence or absence of the electric blue gene when comparing BGJD and normal JDs. That's why it's not 100%, or even close, and that's why BGJDs with more sprangles than normal have more sprangles just out of coincidence (or due to the specific strain having lot's of sprangles).
