EBJD Possibilities...

I am very careful and selective of who I sell my BGs to...First they must be knowledgeable and experienced, and NEVER mix with regular Jacks. Otherwise what's the point.

That's the same thing I was thinking... If one is it doesn't even matter. I bought these fish from 2 different friends. Since I can't say for sure what they are, I won't waste my time with growing out regular jd's. So I will most likely pass them to a friend and let them find out or not.

i was wondering why you say never mix with regular jacks? doesnt adding diversity strengthen the line,so say i have a female that is a willing breeder i.e. will breed with more than the same male or vise versa.. i know it wouldnt give me EB's but it would give me some fresh blood for my other morph jack...correct? im just trying to gain knowledge not trying to be hardheaded...

Strengthen perhaps maybe, but really all it does is cause confusion, thus this thread is created.

I will not buy BG from BGxBG because its a toss up...not all Jack frys will carry the gene. Of course you can tell the few EBJs apart but the BG are mixed with Jacks that the gene did not pass onto. Mixing them will further complicate things, I would say that if you crossed a BG x Regular, then you won't get any EBJs and perhaps 25% or less will carry the gene. So if this was your OWN project then you'd have to raise all of them to breed with an EBJ or another BG, but then which of the babies carry the gene? Trust me, raising frys isn't snap your finger and its done...it takes a lot of your time and effort and end up with 8 of 10 having no Blue genetics. WOW, what a waste of time and tank space and money.

Hint: Take that time and money and spend it on real EBJs and Blue Genes. Even then, are they going to pair up? I applaud you guys for wanting knowledge or ideas, and some critical thinking as well as criticism.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. As I said before I bought these 2 fish from 2 different friends. I don't have much knowledge on the genes of jd's and that's why I made this thread, but I guess I could have done some browsing before making this thread. I did plan on breeding them but didn't want to waste time growing out regular jd's. Oh well... I got the knowledge I needed. Thanks again

Oh and as far as your hint... I'll just stick to my hybrid rt project. The only way I would try for EBJD's is if I bought a project pair from somebody that was producing them. I'm not that much of a jd fan to go that route.

Thanks Calihawk :-) Everything you stated I'm doing, even BGxBG and the reason of doing so is,yes I have tank space and time so kind of little experiments.. But most of all I'm doing it for the EB's so I can gain knowledge... But yea I agree 100% with you if your trying to breed for EBs or golds or platinums than yes do it the easy way with high percentages. Thanks for sharing your opinion with us,as always good stuff for newbies..
