EBJD x BGJD - 2nd try!

Update on this after five months of frustration, caring and working on my breeding pairs ---> Pic#1 - BGXBG offspring, Pic#2/#3 - EBxBG offspring
Congrats on the spawn. The babies look to be doing well. I am trying to get two of my pairs of EBJD/BGJD to spawn but it isn't happening. Can you give me some info about your set-up? Specifically, what size tank the pair are in and whether or not they are alone in the tank. Also how frequently you change water and what percent. If you altered any chemistry for the purpose of breeding, say Ph or Kh, I would like to know that too. Thanks!
Not to derail the topic, but I have been out the cichlids community for a while now, and was wondering if all the BGJD were males or was this the choice of breeders. It seem like every time i see a breeding pair the male is awalys the EBJD and female the BGJD. Why is that? Or there not many females EBJD available, and if that'ts not the case why not breed two EBJD together, is it harder of something. Just curious.

Im lucky to have success over the past year breeding ebjds but Im no expert by all means so dont quote me on anything I say lol. You said that youre trying to get your pairs to spawn so I assume that you have bonded pairs. I use 40 gal breeder for pairs up to 6, 75 gal if theyre larger. If I know I have a mated pair, I wont put anything else in there. I usually do a weekly 50% WC or 30% WC after heavy feeding. I also like to put pots, slates, PVC pipes in the tank. I dont think dempseys are too picky about water chemistry so they get whatever comes out from the tap (ph is probably around 8 in my area) On another note, I also like to put floating plants (fake or real) in the tank. Feeding them live earth worms seems to do the trick for me as well. I hope this helps and GLW your project!

Thanks for your prompt response. I have two bonded pairs in a divided 75g. Both males are about 6". The females are just under that. They occasionally signal to each other or go through the lip locking and gravel moving, but there have not been any eggs for either pair. I have provided them with clay pots and wood. I do a 50-75% water change weekly and don't adjust the chemistry either. I will try feeding them worms in hope that helps. I have 22 other EBJDs but most are under 2".
