Wouldn't any of the fry from 2 wild caught JD's that carry the blue gene be F1?
Just sayin.....
Hmmm... Well, I guess that would be the case. The odds of finding such a pair would probably be longer than being struck by lightning on more than one occasion, though. :)

And the original breeder of the ebjd IS a long time dead. There IS a relative still operating, however.

Actually, he is not dead. The owner of the fish farm is dead, but the original breeder of the EBJD project is not. My son was at his place for a few hours today (son came home in awe about how much he knows. He is learning a lot from him). I'm not sure if most know the REAL story about how the EBJD came about. I'll have to ask if I have permission to give the abridged version.

My understanding has always been that Hector Luzardo was the original breeder of the ebjd. Not the case?

somewhat they are more fragile than what a regular jack dempsey is..it is best to get a UV steralizer for a EBJD tank..

He was pairing off with normal JD and the two were getting along dancing and everything.. And this morning when i woke up he was dead. Ive lost a lot of EBJD in this tank outside. Do EBJD need pristine water, like water changes every week or the die ? :(
i have never had any luck with EBJD ,, burns me up because i like them alot.. they seem to be quite delicate.. especially in the beginning of their life.. then they are suppose to be stronger.. they are relatively new .. the past decade .. they just are not perfect yet.. but yes they need pristine water.. especially ....

I Googled the name and found some info on Hector. Interesting, but all they say is that it was an accidental discovery and give Hector credit. I'll have to ask how Hector fits into the picture. It was an accidental discovery, one that was almost ignored. Only one fish started the whole project. The breeder is from Argentina though and moved here to the US a few years ago.
