Stanz, you must have the eyes of Ted Williams. I see what you're referring to in two of the photos, I hadn't even noticed until you pointed it out. My only concern with this post was whether or not he was the male I had been hoping for, but I would be pumped if I came home to find that one had laid eggs. I've got no idea which female he has been showing off for, though lol
I think one will darken soon and then her cheeks will go white, then you will know what female is ripe.
Feed them well and do a couple of large cold water changes over the next couple of weeks and you should soon discover your first pairing of the group.

Awesome, I'm looking forward to it!
I feed them in the morning and at night, NLS pellets and Omega ONE Mysis Shrimp - they seem to love the shrimp

I usually do a 40-50% water change every other day... the water is rather cold as it's winter time here. Would you recommend doing smaller changes every day, or to just keep doing what I've been doing thus far?

but it's got no domed forehead......it's a gentle gradual slope w/ no abrubt "irregularities" ......
It may have no need to develop a domed forehead. If he is the only male or the rest are weaker subcontinent fish he may never develop a domed forehead.
I find forhead shape a little misleading with Rivs. look at the two pictures I just posted above. The female has more of a domed forehead than the male.

What your already doing so far sounds perfect.

I know, but I figured just because a female CAN have a domed head, doesn't mean it's vice versa.

Also, what do you mean by "weaker subcontinent fish"? I have only heard this term applied to Asia referring to the Indian subcontinent.

cold? what about heaters??? Do you not have running hot water? I'm confused

How big is the new male? I am curious because his has such a thick band on the tail which is what I was hoping mine would develope.

Mine has much long anal and dorsal fins than yours though. So I. Not sure is that just comes with age or if my male will never get that thick color on his tail.
