EHEIM 2260 or FX5???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I own 3 fx5s, and they work fine. I usually clean them every 3 months, not because they need it but because it gives me piece of mind. I did have a problem with one burping a lot and having low flow rates, but it was because I had packed filter material too tight in one of the buckets (operator error).

I respect arguments about longevity, but I think the field might be a little slanted based on the fx5 not being out for as long as some eheims. I did recently sell a fluval 202 that I purchased in 1990 or 1991 and it still worked perfectly. That is 17-18 years of flawless operation. In any mass produced item, there will be production defects in a certain percentage of the products (Eheim and Fluval both manufacture in China, I believe), so if we discount some of the posts as production defects and look at good, operational filters, we can have a more productive debate.

I think the debate depends on the value you place on certain features:
1) Price
2) Bio filtration
3) Mechanical filtration
4) Flow rate
5) ease of cleaning
6) appearance (to some)
7) product loyalty
8) bragging rights
How you rate each filter depends on the value you place on the above attributes. Ultimately, both are good filters, and neither will steer you wrong.

i have been keeping fish for over 28yrs the only filter i have ever owned are eheim

NOT 1 HAS BROKEN ON ME IN ANYWAY

i have a internal eheim 2252 that has been turning over 1200 lph 24/4 NON STOP for over 12yrs with not even a change of impeller

someone asked me to help them clean a FX5 thats how i know its a pipe of junk compared to the 2080

if something has served me well i will back them to the full

at the end of the day budget is the key factor

cheap = fluval
well made with a great track record = eheim

I love it when things get heated, well said Richard. German engineering ay richard, we both have awesome german cars while puntoturbo must have a Punto which I beleive were voted the most unreliable cars in the past 12 years.
Same with fluval really lol. We used to get loads of returns of the 04/05 models and I mean loads when I was in the trade.

Cant beat german engineering thats all I can say, and its not all about flow rates at all. I can garantee a FX5 filled when the best media couldnt cope with filtering my 680ltr/ 180g tank. They have always over rated their filters. 1500 litres, yeah right.

Anyway people thats my opinon and beleive everyone has a right to there own, Eheim all the way for me! Peace:screwy:

lol we have a funny guy here! Yea!.. Fiat puntos are ****!! but thats my brothers car,i own a BMW you can not be GERMAN engineering.Fx5 ALL THE WAY!!!! Eheim has ZERO FLOW RATE! lolol:ROFL:

I love this thread :D .. I'm within a week of buying a filter ...and Ive changed my mind daily from the FX5 to the Eheim 2229 wet/dry canister ..... I plan to keep rays and this an extremely important choice to make

not to stir trouble .. but which would you choose ?? :grinno:

does anyone know the turnover rate for the Eheim 2229 wet/dry canister ? ... cant seem to find it anywhere .. Id like to get at least a rate of 6X in a 125gal .... can the 2229 pull it off ?

nevermind .. I found it , Dr. Foster quotes 145 gal. an hour for the 2229 ..

Eheim has ZERO FLOW RATE! lolol
145 gal. an hour for the 2229 ..
:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

Eheim will create ZERO circulation in a large take by its self. It needs help with a power head HAHAHAHA:ROFL::ROFL:
