Eheim Filters not adequate?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What if just added a 2262 Eheim to the tank? Would it be TOO big for that tank? (125 Gallon, 72x18x24 LxWxH). I don't want it to blow my fish all around the tank. And would it provide enough flow for adequate mechanical filtration? I figure I'd leave the 2 2217's intakes close to the bottom where they are now, and put the intake for the 2262 about halfway to the water surface so it draws from the middle of the tank? Put the return line for the 2262 blowing across the surface so it agitates the surface, and I could remove the bubble bars, too.

My choice would be the Eheim 2262 on a 125G with your fish stock. I don't think it is too big.

I was running a 2260 and an FX5 on a 125G Tanganyika tank and the water was always crystal clear. The fish had no problems with the filter output flow.

Wow, that's quite a leap from the modest 2217s. No, It won't be much current for 125. Just set the return at one end of the long side of the tank to blow water across the total lenght of the tank. Yes, have the return blowing right at the water's surface will create plenty of surface aggitation thus doing away with bubble bars/airstones.

Well, had i known what I THINK I know now, I would have just bought a 2262 from the start. I asked the LFS guy if 2 2217's would be enough, he said "Aw yeah, sure". I guess he thought I was gonna put a bunch of Tetra's or something. 2 2217's is, I think, "modest" filtration. But people posting here are saying "2262 AND a sump", and "2262 and an FX5". Both of those are WAY more filter than "2 2217's.

It all depends on bio load and how "clean" you want your water to look. Plus, a lot of people like overkill in terms of filtration..........I'm one of those people

Check to see if its planaria small white worms tbat are particles floating.

2262 sounds good. I have two on my 220 gal, one should be fine on yours.

As for the 2217, I run one of these on my 40 gal community tank. You're underfiltered, obviously.

^ Agreed

I have a 2217 on my 38G tank and think that is around the size of tank that it works best for.

I would think a 2262 would be a good choice also for your tank.
