Hi guys, I just recently purchased a 125W of the whisk Hager heater for my 40 gallon tank running with a 10 gallon sump. I thought a 125W heater should be enought because it is for 40~53gallon. And I set the temperature at 82°F for the first day and let it run for 24 hours, but my thermometer showed only 77°F , so I calibrated it by Turing the red arrow to 77°F and turn the blue part to the 82°F again. After another 24 hours, the thermometer still showed 77°F. I wonder what's the problem? Btw, I placed my heater in the buttom of my sump not in the display tank.

i used to use 3 jager 300w heaters to keep my tank at a temp of 79-80*.. now i only use 1 x 300watt jager since when i plug them all my power strip would trip the reset on the power strip.. so long story short i am currently using 1 heater to heat my 300 gal plus a 125 sump which filled to about 75gals so total about 370 gal of water to keep a constant temp of 75-76* in the winter time.. my basement temp is about 64-70*.. my tank keeps that warm is one the sump sits on a 2" thick iso board and both sump and tank is totally closed with minium holes so heat traps within tanks..
FYI Jager does NOT make a 125W.. its either 100 or 150w heaters...

hope all your lids in sump and display tank are all covered, since heat will dissipate.. that's how i can achieve my setup to 76* in the winter time with only 1x300w heater.. if you cant close off the whole setup than get a bigger size heater..

Thermometers are not always the real temp. Trust me I have a digital one and makes it a lot easier to use. My thermometers are 1-2 degrees off which is expected.

I bought the digital one for like 2 bucks on eBay. I had a questionable heater from a decade ago but works fine but didn't have a proper way to read the temp there was a high and low setting and everything in between I wouldn't know. High gets up to 88 and low well I'm not sure. I keep the tank at 84-86
