Do you have an EE? 500g is good if he got that size of tank that can fit in his house or afford one but I'm talking about the minimum tank size for a fully grown captive EE. They won't grow to its wild caught size in captivity. Even in the wild they rarely pass 7 feet and rarely seen at 9 feet.

Here is my 3 feet long EE in a 125g. Will upgrade to 180g soon.

No, I don't have an electric eel.

Even for a 3 foot EE, 180 gallons is honestly too small.

If a 180 is going to be atleast 3 feet wide (it should be even wider actually), it's going to be only 4 feet long, and that is really cramming the poor EE.
I still recommend a much larger tank.

The georgia aquarium has 3 electric eels in a tank that seems way too small, I feel sorry for them.

It's too small based on what exactly? What does "honestly" mean? Based on your own opinion despite not owning the fish? You realize this fish at three feet is less than the girth of a pop can?

that is way to small for an ee srsly

also does anyone no how to post i just registered and cant seem to find how?

These things are not that active, contact simonL he has EE's and they are not super active. 125 should be good for almost life. They are extremely flexible and not overly active.

If you guys think a 2' wide by 6' tank is too small for a realitivly inactive three foot "eel" you need to get out of the aquarium hobby ASAP. I don't know how you justify keeping fish in tanks at all. This hobby is about stuffing fish into tiny glass boxes that are a fraction of their natural habitat. If the fish can move around unhindered, is healthy and not deformed...the tank is big enough. Don't insert human notions of "happiness" and "freedom" into the equation.

Now, I've seen a EE of over 4 feet in a 180...that was getting too small. Tanks for eels, including saltwater species, should be about half the length of the fish in width and 1.5 to 2 times the fish in length, as a minimum.

Good info ^^ and I agree.

thnx, i was wondering about their electrical discharge, does it affect u?

Well...if they discharge while you have a body part in the tank, it'll definitely affect you. Depending on the size, it can probably make your heart stop. I don't believe that these are for the average hobbyists and should only be kept by scientists and very dedicated adavnce hobbyists.
