Dude, I deal with that problem Every Day! Who ever started the whole "goldfish live in bowls" needs to be kicked in the crotch! My next favorite is "THE FISH WILL ONLY GROW TO THE SIZE OF THE TANK" lol! I bet some people here would beg to differ! I bought a small comet goldfish- had her for 3 months in a 30gallon, she was 8" before she got upgraded to the 120 with the other goldies. So I think you were right to give the shock factor- But I wont sell them as pets unless you have atleas a 10 gallon tank.
yeah i know i went up to the guy and told him that the goldfish he was giving out was a sarasa comet and that they get big but only to tank size then i told him about stunting. he didnt know.:irked:
im not trying to scare my friend, just persuade him to accommodate the goldfish. hes not even really a fishkeeper. he is a carnival goldfish keeper. somehow he managed to keep 3 from last summers fair:confused:

Toss it in a predator tank, problem solved with the goldfish. Its sad, but true.

PS - Where do I get the 180 gal tank/filter combo for $90?

I'M GONNA TOTALLY MISS THE POINT OF THIS THREAD AND HARP ON ABOUT THE SUGGESTED PRICE OF HIS TANK BECAUSE I THINK IT'S FUNNY LOL1!!

geez

So, are the $90 180g in Brooklyn? If so, set aside a few for me- I'll pick up in december.

[edit] On a more pertinent note, the bit about the organs breaking the bones and bursting through the skin is definitely exaggerated...

Aside from me getting here late, and the 180s being sold out at $90.00.. I think your request to your friend is ridiculous.

I don't think anyone would be willing to invest thousands to "properly accommodate" a feeder they received for free at a state fair. I think you not only exaggerated the consequences of him not upgrading to a 180 gallon, I think you may have killed a spark into fish keeping.

Lets face it, a lot of us got into the hobby by jumping in without research, then afterwards realize what we need to do. When I got my first 2 Reds, if someone had sent me an email scolding me about tank size, water changes, and filtration, I probably would have been slightly turned off.

This is not meant to be a flame, but I do think you may have been too harsh on him

who cares about the stinking goldfish, i want some $90 180s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! details please!

and lol, dude telling a guy that just got his first free goldfish that he needs a 180 is a little extreme. good intentions, but a little extreme IMO.
