I think its fine he should not be offended i mean its more of an honor than an insult think about it you like it enough to dosplay it in your fish tank an important thing to you

me personally. its my tank I believe the expression was Kick rox...:) but Im a jerk if I offended someone with a buddha statue, I would probly remove it and replace it with something like a sign that said F**k Buddha then I would invite them over and calmly debate whether they would rather I have that or the buddha. But I used to throw goldfish to the pond where I used to work, for kids, and if parents whined, id do it twice more!

EDIT: I have no anti buddha feelings! but I did have a friend that was buddhist, and I have to ask is it not offensive to have what wouldve been a frail skinny man portrayed as a jolly fat sumo-esque?? that would offend me more than one in a tank......which reminds me I need a buddy christ for my tank

please keep i mind that this is a friend not somebody im gonna tell to blow off but somebody that ive had mature discussions with, again, agreeing to disagree does work, try it sometime....

I can honestly say I would not be offended in the least. Being a mormon, I am used to my religion getting trashed constantly, so I get over it. If I can, then the rest can. And about the whol friends being offended, I don't make friends with people who easily get offended or are hung up on the politically correct thing. So in the words of one of the other posters, Grow a pair!!!!:headbang2

yes! I got quoted.

First if something I had or did offended a friend, I would change it. If it offended a stranger, then depending on circumstances I may change it. With the budda in the tank I do no see it a degrading at all.

Second, what is the growth rate of the budda, how big does it get? You should research this to ensure that the 360g tank will be big enough for it to trive in.:D

I used to have this awesome wooden budha sculpture, but i gave it away, I think I might put one in my future 375. Dats and aro's with a budha...

This happened to my friends Ben, he had a buddha in his tank cause he thought it looked cool sitting in the corner surrounded by plants, One of my other friend is christen and said it is offensive to uses someones religious icon like that (coming from a guy who believes all other religions except his are fake anyway). Well Ben took the buddha out and replaced it with the virgin mary, this didn't go down well.
My belief is, if you have a religion thats your problem, your probably going to whatever eternal damnation your religion has. Me, I am not religious, nor would I change anything because it insults someones religion because their religion insulst me but I don't ask them to change. I do not want to be preiched to, told another religion is false, told that their is proof of a religion or restricted by religion. I eat meat on good friday, I curse using god name and break several other religious rules.
Next time a religious group knocks on my front door, I will get their location of their gatherings and I will rock up and hand out panflets, see how they like it.

To anwser the questions

Would you change you tank decor for a friend if they were offended by the decor or tell them to deal with it?

NO, stuff 'em.

Would you be offended if somebody put a figure of your GOD in their fish tank?

I don't have a god, I live, I die, thats it. All that matters is now, not tommorrow and not whats after death, cause theirs nothing.

I believe in evolution, so having fish in your tank insults me so take them out your abusing my beliefs:grinno:

:lipsseale I'll do my best to stay on topic (as hard as it may be after that rant). Coming from a Christian (I hope it's still ok to say that), I'll comment based only on my worldview and not others, because I probably wouldn't do them much justice. It wouldn't bother me one bit. Personally I wouldn't choose to put a Jesus statue in my fish tank, but it really wouldn't hurt my feelings if someone did, because I dont think there is an image or statue of my God. Again personally, I think it's cause for concern if your God is a statue, but thats not the discussion we're having. I totally understand though if that would upset some Christians, just like it may upset some buddhists if there was a statue of buddha in your tank. I think if this guy is a friend of yours (which he sounds like he is), and you were both willing to have an intelligent discussion about it (which it sounds like you did), the choice is now yours. What do you think is right? If you respect this guys opinion and friendship, the choice is probably easy. And I would probably stay away from telling him where to put it or shove it! :D
