This is why non educated people shouldn't participate in a hobby like this that they don't fully understand. If people would setup pairings of fish correctly you wouldn't have a problem to start with. Killing a creature besides to put it out of its dying misery is ridiculous. How would you feel if someone killed you because you were a pain in the butt?
Precisely.:iagree:

This. Euthanasia, feeders, culling, and fishing I can understand, but this whole "problem fish" thing is just :screwy:. Killing fish because they're too big, or too aggressive, or you're overstocked? :banhim:

But...Cam's goldfish story

I have a fish story I had typed up and the darn post dissappeared will be back to retype it in response to a couple of posts . It is about a fish I did not kill, but intentionally put in a tank to get his just desserts as he would in a nature setting, considering the lake he comes from.

I have, had 5 RBP's that I adored so much I moved them down to TX with me when I left KY. After moving here I found out they were illigal to keep, so we had BBQ of sorts and grilled the little buggers, at least they didnt go to waste.

That time out is too funny. Actually the most humane way to do it espically with a big fish is to put them in a bucket with enough water to cover them drop an alkaseltzer in, it with know the fis unconsious and then put it in the freezer it only takes a few min and the fish doesn't feel it because he is out!

I have it was 2 Oscars. I might do it again, I dread the two that I have now. Their evil. I took them out one at a time threw them in a bag real quick and took it on the porch steps and hit their head area as hard as possible with a mallet type hammer. Blood all over the bag, but at least it was instant.

Hate me, idc. My fish, my rules.
AGREED> My fish, my rules. If the fish has become problematic and I cant find it a home, goodbye. My wife doesnt get it, but then, she talks to the fish. "awe, hes just mad because you need to..._______." IDC if you think its cruel or whatever. Think of it this way...High priced Frontosa vs. pissed off larger dime-a-dozen Oscar...I'm taking the Oscar out!!

I think the point to many here, above and packer or watever is that there isnt usually a need to kill a fish. Why would you not just bring it to an lfs or for free? Or is that too much effort?
if you dont want that dime a dozen oscar in your tank hurting your fish, why did you buy it? People are retarded, like above. I made a mistake, bought the wrong fish, and my way of solving the new issue is to kill it. Yeah yeah its a fish and its your fish, still makes you a pusssy.
I dont get why people cant be responsible for the decisions they have made and get rid of the fish...I had one months ago I needed to get rid of..it took me a cpl months before i did, but I didnt kill it and the person who has it is happy now. Lazy people.

Very lazy and no compassion. Just like people fight to disallow Walmart to carry fish, people should fight that fools shouldn't be allowed to own fish.

That's just the mentality of a huge chunk of this site, sadly. No responsibility, no accountability. A lot of them tend to be the "fad keepers" it seems; if something's "in" they have to get it, to hell with what they've already got, kill whatever they have that isn't compatible with the new "fad" fish because they can't even wait long enough to find that "dime-a-dozen" fish a new home before getting in on the latest craze.

In the end of course it is "just a fish". I eat fish, so I'm certainly not going to lose sleep over a fish dying. But the "disposable pet" mentality is troubling, as it's that throught process that leads to released exotics all over the place. There's no difference between the guy who kills fish out of convenience and the guy who dumps them in a local lake for the same reason.
