HEY!

I was thinking of applying at the LFS down the road. I was laid off of my last job from downsizing.

And I am NEVER being a receptionist again. I did that for 6 years. NO MORE>

The LFS down the road is great. They are expanding which tells me business is good. I just cant decide whether i should or not.
I dont have anyone to ask about it. No one i know ever worked at one.

Ewurm, are your first impressions good?

Maybe i should start my own thread instead of hijacking yours. :nilly:
Sorry.

LOL, feel free to hijack. I will tell you that you will be dissapointed in the money you make, but some are willing to forego money to do something they love. If this would be your primary income, pass. If you can work it part time, it's worth it. This job will support my hobby and give me the learning experience I need.

be prepared to answer the same dumb damn questions ten times daily since everyone learns at different rates. Most times its related to jamming oscars in ten gallons and finding a fish meaner than an oscar....or a mean evil fish that kills everything you put in the tank...of course they wont get a real tank for it. I hate those questions...if they want something around that kills crap for no reason go get an abusive human friend dont take it out on animals.

once in awhile you'll find a customer that cracks a book, hits the net or is patient...i'm about to build a shrine to tanks done right at work. some peopel would rather dump 50 bucks in chemicals and crap they dont need than just freaking take some damn time to do it right.

i love my job at my LFS but its really really repetative at times and frustrating to send good fish home with ignorant customers that refuse to listen to advice...and of course i cant refuse a sale or i risk getting terminated so i just pass the sale some one else.

Its an interesting job, good discount most times access to some kick ass fish that most times never make it into the store and interacting with some cool people but there are two sides to every coin.

thats my rant about LFS work over all we need to start a thread of all the odd/dumb/ingorant stories we get at our respective jobs...it'd be interesting to read if its common or just utterly random crap that goes on.

the other fun thing is every time i start to clean a tank five people need fish instantly...its murphy's fish room law. :D.

I'd give it a shot but its not going to make you rich by any means but it pays my bills tolerably for the moment.

That's cool you got a job at WOF. I make it down there once in a while..
The last time I had to point out that their "festaes" were actually uros though...
But other than that incident WOF is one of the more reputable LFS around.

Stuff to think about.
Thanks.

and yeah, Ewurm, it would be my main money source. Maybe not a good idea huh? Of course, with no college, i dont know if a good paying job is within reach. Freaking school. I hate it.

Good luck with the job Ewurm. Hope you like it

Congrats on the job. When I started working at the LFS I really only knew anything about new world cichlids. I've learned so much, but some people are so aggravating to talk to. I had one guy swear me out because I wouldn't sell him a jaguar, a red devil, 2 jack dempseys, 2 convicts, a parrot, and a fredrichstahli for a 40 long that didn't even have water in it yet (that's nice about my LFS, we can refuse sale if we're concerned about the welfare of the fishes).

I'm sure you'll enjoy it. My favorite perk is seeing the order sheet before it gets sent. ;)

I can refuse a sale as well. I am instructed not to sell something that obviously won't work.
