typically i've been able to stop most people doing stupid things but ermm...not all the time. today we sent in an order for african cichlids...got me thinkng about my empty 100 gallon good lord there's stuff out there i havent seen available in a decade all waiting to swim in there and look pretty :).

i'm careful what i say in case my manage decides to look around for fish info on forums (not likely but it'd be my luck :) )

no worries most the people who work at the petco where i work only work there to keep things alive and attempt to educate people away form disastrous situations.

we got some people to stop putting goldfish in 1 gallons (hardest freakin thing to do working at a pet store) by showing pictures of full grown ones. for some reason people don't believe me when i tell them how big fish get. its like they cant imagine a living thing getting bigger then it is. (again wishing there was a smiliey that rolls its eyes)

second hardest is getting people to cycle there tanks and change their water.

third is convincing people not to use soap on their tanks.

oh and overstocking :duh: no you can't put 10 neon tetras in a small fish bowl. and you can't mix your tropical and goldfish.

Lots of folks like to hate on the lowly employees of the conglomerate pets stores, but no one understands what it's like to attempt to educate someone who confuses a one gallon tank with a one hundred gallon tank. Or the one who wants to put a red eared slider with a caiman because it's "lonely". Yes, this actually happens.
Sigh.

Red Eared Slider with a caiman? Why not toss a lonely Python in with your pet rabbit? LOL
 
I started my new job. This isn't work. I do exactly what I do when I get home. Clean tanks, feed fish, bag fish, give advice. The best part is, I get PAID for this, and I get a seriously sweet discount. Pics will be forthcoming, I am going there tomorrow. I got my first fish with my discount, a nice 5" Clown Loach and a trio of Dwarf Loaches.
 
You lucky man! Good to hear that you like it. Now don't try and force loaches on everybody and be nice! Oh yea and when somebody tells you about thier sweet oscar that they have in a ten gallon...PLAY NICE! lol

I actually have a flamethrower that I wear on my back. If someone says Oscar and ten Gallon in the same sentence, I torch them from across the room.
