Expensive Fish For Sale

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I went to the Hinez Dam on Sunday, where Saratoga/Jardini are quite abundunt. Didnt fish for any, but was just a day on the road.

There are quite a lot of jardini's around the Darwin area. Like the whole northern coast of Australia.

If I ever saw an Asian Aro in a LFS, it'd be more than just a few thousand.
Every Jardini I've ever seen has been the regular silver with a pattern on thier fins.

Im glad fish are priced the way they are in a way, because as Kramer said, if you pay a lot for a fish, you are going to pay a lot to keep in fit and healthy.

On a side topic, I think tanks are quite expensive aswell. A standard 6x2x2 tank alone is $300-400.
Even a large internal power filter costs 80 bucks. 2000l/ph one. 530g/ph.

I'm so glad I don't have the room for those cool monster fish, it would cost way too much for the fish let alone the set up for one.

At the store today, I bought a 1cm bristle nose for $5, and that was the cheapest I could find, common plecs sky rocket into the $100's per specimen when they get over 6 inch, the smaller ones will still set you back $40-50. A 700l/ph filter costs $30 and it's not even any special brand.

I'm so jealous of you Americans LOL, we used to live over there but came back not long before 9/11, wish I'd been interested in fish then, a $10 10g is an impossible find around here, it'd be more like $40.

Hmm I think The tanks prices are fair considering the LFS has to make a profit and the glass isnt very cheap. The filters are way expensive though one shop was selling an FX5 for $700:ROFL:

I see some great deals on ebay. Like for example, 120G, 4x2x2 for $150-200 bucks. Tank, stand, hood, canister, light, heater etc. But the regular 6x2x2's are in the 700 range. For tank stand and hood.

I feel building your own tanks could be cheaper. Thats what I could do down the track...

Building an all glass tank will not be cheaper unless you know someone in the glass business... but plywood could be cheaper..

I have found that tank prices in the U.S are more than in Australia.

Honestly...if you can get a brand new 6x2x2 for $300 everyday of the week. You are doing very well. :irked:

As for filters etc. If you know where to shop..you can get stuff very cheap. Online stores are great and they will ship anywhere in Australia.

Depending on the brand...$80 for a good internal filter is not bad at all :screwy:

The cheapest I can get a 6x2x2 is $650 with cabinet, new. I pay more cause I am very picky about the braces and only few places make them as I like them. As for filters, shop around, Fluval FX5 $350-$400 at Aggies Aquarium (S.A.) but at Seaview (again S.A.) as much as $500-$600.
Plecos are pricey, I payed $55 for a 3" Sailfin, but if you keep your eyes open you find good deals. 7" Comman $90 which is ok, 13" Sailfin $160 which is a great deal as I've seen them for upto $400. A store offered me $250 for him. A friend and I got 60 odd Bristle Noses (ranging from 1.5cm - 3cm) for $40 which is an awesome price, local papers and websites are the best way to pick up cheap fish and equipment.

The 6x2x2 that can be brought for an average of $400 (Just tank) are made of either 8 and 10mm glass. The whole setup costs 700, usually.

Where I live, there are practiclly more pet shops than fast food joints, but none of them carry top notch products such as CO2 products, Eheim Canisters, HO Lighting, RO systems, etc. But to find these products I have to get my mum to drive over 30-40 minutes to a pet shop, which neither her nor I want to do. So I guess Im stuck with the idea implemented in my mind that everything is expensive.

Talk about expensive plecs, my favourite and biggest LFS near me has the widest range of plecs in my district. They have 3.5-4" Clown Plecs for $90, 3" Bristlenoses for $25-30, 1 foot sailfins for $120 (Which is CHEAP), 1" Tiger Plecs or, Queen Arabesque, dunno, for about $35-40.

I also, about 2 weeks ago sold 2 of my 3 bristlenoses for $30. One female was 3", and the other male was 3.5".
