Man that was expesnive. Nowthing at my LFS can compair to those prices.

If you ever get a chance to look at the lists from their suppliers you'll get a shock. Was at my LFS getting another tank yesterday and he showed me the price of some fish available from his supplier in Germany £500 cost price for some newly found species. Then its £50 a box delivery then all plus VAT, the the LFS needs to add a mark up on to the too...... :WHOA:

Hello from brisvegas

yeah i wish fish were a bit cheaper here, i saw a green asian aro at petcity a few months ago for 2G..... but i guess u think twice before getting some monster fish making sure u will have enough tank room and filter size..... i always check on the local forums and look out for bargains... u come across bargains from time to time... i do more shopping on the forums these days ^_^. occasionaly u come across really nice stock like 15~20 cm clown loaches which would cost u 150 dollars from LFS and u see it for 20 dollars each and a while back i did see a 30cm silver aro which was in really good shape for sale for 180 dollars... i guess u just need to be at the right place at the right time...... keep some spare tank room hey!!! i have found also with tanks u can often pick up good bargains from the forums when people are moving on from the hobby and u can pick up the full set including filters. 6 months back i picked up a 8x2x2.5 with cabinet and lights and 2 otto canister filter and substrate and ornaments etc... for 400 dollars... the only pain was that i needed to organise transport to pick it up and it was about 45 min from where i lived and i needed to make 2 trips as the cabinet would not fit in the van i rented... plus that will be the last time i try to lift that with only 3 people hahahahhahahaa~ felt crippled after that....

cheers

Eric

Best advice i can give you guys is to buy privately ONLY, as mentioned earlier keep an eye on the local forums and for sale sections... every now and then there are some good deals to be had!

Another good idea is, don't be afraid to network inside the hobby... get to know the staff at your LFS, local forum members etc If you see one of the bris boys searching for...lets say an L200, and you spot one for $500 instead of $650 LOL chuck him a PM and one day he may return the favour.

One thing is for sure... this site sux(jk's) cause all the awesome oddballs that everyone has and can afford are big $$$ over here! That is why i breed rays, birchirs, asian aro's, silver aro's, black aro's, dats, gars, RTC, TSN, ATF, L no's.... etc and am now a retired MILLIONAIRE!!! LOL

If a silver aro cost that much I wonder how much an asian aro will cost provided it's legal to have it there.

Can't you all just order the fish you want and have them sent to ya by UPS next day air??? Sounds like that would be a hole lot cheeper.

I did not know that silver arowas and rtc were even legal in Australia

Hmm I think The tanks prices are fair considering the LFS has to make a profit and the glass isnt very cheap. The filters are way expensive though one shop was selling an FX5 for $700:ROFL:

Whoa...that is steep. I thought the lfs near me was crazy asking $400 for an FX5.

I buy my filters online...eBay mostly. I just picked up an FX5 for $160. :headbang2

I too thought RTC's were highly illegal because we have waters capable of housing the RTC's. Sorta like Florida the more north you go.
But then, right before my eyes, I saw a 16" specimen. My eyes glistened in the sight of it. But it was in a 4x2x2 tank about 10 feet or so in the air without any lights. So it was hard to see at times.

I've still gotta see a Dat for my first time.

if you still wanna see a dat for the first time go to annerly aquarium on old cleavland road (i think)... they got a massive dat there + they aren't a bad fish shop, i agree that you need to look around privatly and network to find bargains... i ended up paying 370 for my fx5 (new) when i was after one.. some good sites have decent fish for decent prices one not too long ago had a decent size green aro for 1k... ect local fish shop near me has a rtc thats about 14-16 inches for 600 which is pretty good too..
