I did not know that silver arowas and rtc were even legal in Australia

You can still get them though. Along with a lot of others.

if you still wanna see a dat for the first time go to annerly aquarium on old cleavland road (i think)... they got a massive dat there + they aren't a bad fish shop, i agree that you need to look around privatly and network to find bargains... i ended up paying 370 for my fx5 (new) when i was after one.. some good sites have decent fish for decent prices one not too long ago had a decent size green aro for 1k... ect local fish shop near me has a rtc thats about 14-16 inches for 600 which is pretty good too..

The dat I have been told is sold now. I wanted to buy it...but it was starting to look a little old.

As I was browsing the tanks in a LFS called 'Aquarium Warehouse' in the Gold Coast (Queensland, Australia) I saw a Silver Arowana for the very first time. Its was 12-14" and $595!!!

I also saw for the first time in a pet shop a 16" Red Tail Catfish for $990.
8" Tinfoil Barbs for $100 each.
And for the very time seeing one in person, a 7-8" Clown Knife, for $300!!!

This were outragous prices, considering the the U.S the Silver would be like 30 bucks, the RTC, about 50, the barbs, 20, and the CK about 25.
But then again, I've never seen these fish (Apart from the barbs) in a LFS before. Let alone in person, except for a 4ft RTC in a Public Aquarium.

Anyone else got some expensive fish at thier LFS?

Thats Australia for ya dude!! like i say all the time we get the sh$t end of the stick when it comes to fish!

Mystix212: I know the shop you mean, it is only 2 minutes drive from my house. The clown knife and the red tail cat have been there for months (or they keep replacing them with similar sized fish). The red tail cat was housed in one of those tanks on the bottom shelves for a very long time.

Their cichlid prices are normally not too bad. I do keep thinking about how I could house that Red tail cat at home...but my tank is no where near big enough with a depth (front to back) of only 45cms.

Would like to see some of those queen arabeque and clown plecos you talk about though. I have one gibbi that is about 25cms long and one common plec that is about 15cms long.

QueenslandeR: I know Annerly have a Dat, I've seen it in thier website. Then when pine Rivers Aquarium had a pick of Pbass, I just shat myself. It was awesome, but I doubt they would have one.

ChadC: My grandparents live at Crystal Reef drive, so its like a 2 min drive to get there aswell.
If I had the housing capabilities, I would pay $990 for the RTC hands down.
