What really annoys me is the people who come in talking about fish "mysteriously dying" or not living longer than a few months. I ask them how they care for the tank and get descriptions as mentioned above. I explain to them what is wrong with their methods and they respond with "that's how I've done it for 20 years without any problems". ?????? :screwy: How is fish living 1/10 of their normal lifespan not a problem?

to add on i get a lot of "o we've had this fish forever now, it's been like 6months"

Bogwoodbruce has anyoe ever come back into the store and said "you were right, my fish died..."?

Those people usually don't come back in my experience.

even if they did they wouldnt readily admit they were wrong

Not technically a LFS story but more of a Public Aquarium story...

I was at Underwater Adventures in the Mall of America. I was looking at their SA exhibit with all the different types of fish and such and this guy next to me sees a "Black Pacu" and starts bragging and talking nonsense! He told a lot of people there that all the "Black Pacu" in there were actually Piranhas!

I got a good chuckle but yeah right a 2-3 foot long pygo!

I hate it when people are like that.
If water is discolored by anything besides driftwood tannins theres a problem.

I dont always see them back in the shop again or if i do they probably dont wanna admit it. He may have been ok to a couple more fish and its his choice but why risk it in a new tank.

but why risk it in a new tank.
exactly.

i was in my fav LFS aa few days ago and this guy was in there askin the manager if she could set up a big SW tank at his house and have the store maintain it. he didnt wanna touch anything and get his hands dirty lol. i had a good laugh listening to their conversation when i was there.

I was stocking my African Cichlid tank about a year ago, and the LFS worker recommended some haps that got way to big for my 3 foot tank. I told him I didn't want anything larger than a yellow lab (about 6 inches) and he told me that yellow labs get up to 3 feet long in the wild. I told him that he was wrong and his response was "Yes they do... haven't you ever been to Sea World?".

In places with not-so-knowlegable, or just plain ignorant, employees, youve gotta go there already knowin. Everything you need to know about what fish you want...

So many people want fish as ornaments rather than pets :(
