A few weeks back I was at my LFS (the crappiest, most unkept LFS around), and I was only there cuz they do get some rare, cool fish that I can't get at petsmart. So he has 3 L191 royals in a 20g. The tank has UGF and one fake plant. Bellies of 2 are sunken and their eyes are well on their way. They are all huddled behind the UGF tube. You could so tell they were just wasting away with a $40 pricetag. So I ask the guy what they've been eating. "We just give them flakes" he says. So I tell him "These fish need driftwood, veggies, and a quality pellet diet to stay healthy".. his reply was, "We'll sell them quickly, that's up to the buyer to provide them with the best.. it would cost us a fortune to feed them like that"... I just left shaking my head.
Well, about 10 days later I return to the same LFS and look in the tank. No royals. I ask the guy where the royals went... he tells me "oh, we sold them"... I could tell by the tone of his voice that this was not the case and they most likely just died. Poor fish.
