What? You've never been to the Amazons of Australia? I hear it's nice this time of year. You can find it on a map next to the 'Middle of Nowhere', and 'That Place Over There'.

Went to a petland discount today looking for a UV sterilizer. Some sales guy immediately decided to mark me for the kill. Asked me what fish I had, so I told him. He lit up when I mentioned my arowanas, so I assumed he was interested in those. Told me he had 4 of them in 75 and I raised an eyebrow. He proceeded to ask me what I fed my arowanas so I said Hikari food sticks and market shrimp. He was all like "you should feed it krill and crickets. You see in their natural environment in the Amazons of Austrailia they eat lots of these". At this point I told him that I just wanted to get a UV sterilizer and walked away.

Funny, my LFS is a Petland Discount, the manager really doesn't know much about fish compatibility in FW, but the assistant manager is the guy i know, and let me tell you he knows his stuff. Just wish he was the manager so the store could be run a bit better

Oh gosh. That's horrible. I know most of the Petland Discounts in Brooklyn, and I need to know which one this is

A special thank you to Shawn, Ned, Ellis & Josh. MA LFS's who've helped me along the way. I've seen/heard the cr@p they've had to deal with and I knew it was bad; but after reading this thread and hearing firsthand about the prevalence and sheer volume of what you folks have to deal with makes me even more appreciative.

Please stay in the game, lots of us rely on you guys/gals.

Used to be my go-to store- but it has been in a downward spiral. Recently I've seen: Clueless employees; Livestock sales are now by commission; zero legitimate quarantine; and BtB sales are about 25% deadstock.

Caveat... Some of the above is from personal knowedge, and some from reliable 3rdparty sources.

All that being said... I still head in on occasion. Solid selection of Fresh & Saltwater livestock and hard to find dry goods. However most of the dry-goods are ridiculously overpriced and I'm still leery about the stock.

I like this one. Bout some convicts and got a pair that layed some eggs.
Store is clean and nice. Havent really spoken with the staff.

Tropic Isle is one of the cleanest stores I've been in- and still is. Just a little sad about what I've heard and seen.

...although like I said, I still shop there despite my reservations. I bought my Bala's from there around a year ago. They are thriving and heading towards the full size for the species.
