someone asked me and my manager today for blue goldfish for her wedding because 'blue was her colour'. we showed her some shubunkins which had some blue in them. she said they were not blue enough. she then said that some of the black moors in another one of our tanks were blue (which they weren't).

she then said that her wedding was 11 months away:screwy: and she wanted 50 of them so she could put 2 in a bowl on each table and put some in urns. after the wedding she wants to take them back to the shop so basically we will be 'renting' out fish. the manager said that alot of people have been asking for fish for weddings lately (i only work a couple of times a week). but 11 months away!:WHOA:

this may be a bit out of topic but a few weeks ago my manager bought a meat pie for lunch from darbys pies (a well known pie shop chain in my city) and cut it in half (he normally doesnt cut his pies in half, neither do most people) and out popped what appeared to be a fake fingernail! he rang up darbys pies head office and complained. they replied by saying it must of come from the butcher because its only guys that work in the bakery. (they have one bakery and deliver all the pies to the chain shops). about half an hour later someone who works at thompsons pies (another well known pie chain but of better quality) happens to walk in the store and the manager cant help but tell him about what happened. he was laughing his head off!
btw the thompsons pies guy is right into australian antives

At the petco I worked at a few years ago people would come in and request something like 50 bettas in a particular color for that same reason. The people never said anything about returning them, so I figured most would just end up dead

I don't work at the lfs, but I'm there enough to hear some really funny stuff.

One of my favorites, a guy purchases a betta, and procedes to ask the guy, "Can he live in a cup?" no "can I feed him bacon bits?" no "So what do I feed him?" betta food "will it eat bacon bits?" probably not "well, what can I feed it then?" betta food "it wont eat anything else?" flake food "ok I'll come back for food then"

I was in there a week later, and the same guy was in there again..... "the fish wont eat, it's really skinny" what are your water parameters "my what?" what are you keeping it in? "a cup" well, what are you feeding it? "bacon bits, the water smells too" well sir, your problem is this, the fish doesn't like you, bring it back and get some seamonkeys, they're easier to keep "really? seamonkeys? I'll bring the fish tomorrow, and where do I get seamonkeys?" walmart sir "ok, thanks a lot!"

:screwy: I still laugh about that conversation. Never saw the guy in there agian though. Gotta love idiots for entertainment.:swear::wall:

iv gotten to be friends with one of the guys that works at a lfs. he, unfortunately, does not have the option of refusing to sell fish to idiot customers. worst story iv ever heard from him about some of the freaks that come in there was this woman that wanted a betta. she explained that she just loved bettas wanted to get one to replace the one that just died on her. upon questioning my friend found out that every day this woman had taken her betta out and run it under the sink to give it a bath.... it survived that for 3 months!!!

thats gotta be like animal cruelty or something, i mean come on, thats not even done out of ignorance; thats just being a geniune dumb@ss.

Blue goldfish, lol. Hope she didn't mean dyed. I'm surprised she didn't ask for bettas. I bet her future husband is going to have a fun time being married to her

Back when i was in high school, i used to have a job at my LFS. Worked for about 2 years and ended up as the store's arowana and stingray guy (all arowana and stingray sales and questions were supose to directed to me if boss was busy). We then had this new guy come in who I THOUGHT knew his stuff. He learned of all the policies and the store owner made it clear to direct anyone asking about arowanas to either himself or me and stingray questions towards me only as hes been stung countless times and is kinda scared of them now. He decides not to listen LOL. while i was feeding aros, i ran out of food and boss told me to go open a new bag. Since food was near the stingray isle, i had to walk over there. I then see this idiot bagging up a 8" motoro telling a customer about how 10" will be the max size of a motoro and that a 20 gallon tank will be no probs. I walk over there and start telling him off. He thinks im trying to steal his sale and we were almost at the point of exchanging blows, then bossman walks in and says hes fired LOL. Customer was no where to be seen. Must of slipped away while we were arguing. Fired on the first day of work LOL.

I had a lady call me and ask "How do you know if your fish is dead?"

&

I had a guy come in panicking because he bought a walmart set-up, put neon tetras and swordtails in there, and ordered a clownfish online. they all died. he said he dumped enough salt to make the water salty? He was devastated that his kids birthday was ruined, yet had the balls to come running to the LFS for help after buying everything somewhere else for a couple bucks cheaper. I made him feel every bit like the idiot he was/is.
