I have a customer with a severe mental illness...his parents always come with him to pick out fish, and I finally got to talking to them the other day. Besides goldfish ponds, he has something like 6 fish tanks, the biggest being 160gal, that he takes care of himself. He also takes care of 150 houseplants. Pretty cool, I think.

that's a great story. i assume his disorder is something autistic based?

if so, i bet our hobby does wonders for him.

I haven't asked, but something like that...no speech, but he knows what he wants, haha. I find it ironic that he probably takes better care of his tanks than 90% of the schmucks that come through there.

definitely some form of autism there.

I have a very minor case of Asperger's syndrome (high functioning autism), and hobbies and such can really help someone who can't function very well.

thankfully i've never had a problem fitting in. it just makes me happy to hear where it's helped someone.

Got another one!!

Customer: Can I feed these to my danios? *holding SANYU sinking pellets(3mm diameter pellets)*
Worker: These pellets sink.. I don't think they can eat them..
Then the customer goes back into the store and brought a bottle of pellets 7mm in diamter and asks again... LOL

I was righ in front of them I dare not voice out since I'm just 15... The boss might urge me to leave or whatever..

Then a lady came in and looked at the RES..
Lady: Do they need air pumps?
Boss: Yea they do..
Me: LOL?
Lady: Ok then, are there any fish here that don't need air but won't die?"

By this time me and my friend were out of that store and I was laughing..

you actually said "lol" out loud?

Is it just me or should it be illegal for any box store to sell Iridescent Sharks?

-Its not fair to the fish:irked:;
-It's not fair to guys on the front-lines who have to deal with the uninformed:irked:;

...and it is definitely not fair to the guy or gal who has to sell the idiot the fish or lose his or her job :irked:.
since when is life fair?

dont know if it counts or goes with the topic but heres mine.

a few days ago i went to take my oscar back to the store for in-store credit, since pretty soon i wont be home near as much as i am now (being a student sucks), and my mother cant care for him.

he is about 4-5 inches, which was halfway between where all of their stock was. most was either 6"-7" or 3"ish. i was saddened to watch him go into a 125 gallon with a 3 other oscars a little bit bigger than him. i was picking up some food and i overheard a customer talking to the worker about how he was stocking up a 250 and needed an oscar to go with his other two and that he was getting mine!

i went in saddened about giving up a good friend, but i'm ecstatic that he's in an absolute ocean (atleast from his perspective) now. :)

thats a happy story:)

I was at an LFS the other day. And I was looking at the fish when the guy working there asks me what I think about Discus. And I see this old lady standing next to him. So I give him my opinion on them. It turns out this lady wanted to buy a fish for her tank but this guy was trying to take advantage of her.

He was telling her that Discus are the only fish that follow you and watch you, and they can hear you talking to them. I ask her what size tank she has, she told me a 29 gallon. I was going to ask her what she already has stocked in it but the guy is giving me a weird look. As if he is hoping I don't spoil his sale. I walked away and could hear this guy telling this lady to buy atleast 1 discus and she wouldn't be sorry.

She kept saying I don't know, she wasnt sure etc. And this guy was like hounding her trying to get her to buy an expensive discus. I felt bad for her and I got a negative opinion of this LFS because of it. Not only was he taking advantage of someone, he clearly did not care about the welfare of the fish.

^^ shoulda definitely said something - i hate it when people do that crap

I was helping a customer last week and I heard they wer starting a SW tank so I showed them the green chromis as starter fish. I also overheard the other person they were with had a 10 gal FW tank, later on they ask for a guppy as well so I just think its for the 10 gal FW. Turns out, they just straight put the guppy in with the chromis. A week later they come in and show me a picture of the guppy schooling with the chromis happy and healthy! Fish are just amazing creatures, acclimated so fast.
