i'd like to mention that an african brown knife is a relatively small species and depending on the dimensions of the 45 gal it may be large enough to handle a knife with a max size of 9-12" (of course larger is better though), and they are somewhat slow growers and that tank should last quite a while if not life.

thank you very much aiden i appreciate the backup on this one
- went to petsmart today because im letting my gf turn a 10 gallon tank in to a peaceful community tank and i overheard this conversation:
Customer: We've had 7 beta fish die in a row and can't understand why
Employee: Well, did you use water conditioner and what do you keep them in?
Customer: What the heck is water conditioner? We keep them in the little cups they come with because we like the blueish water and change about half of it out with tap water once a week
No problem, it annoys me how ready people are to start fights, especially when they do zero research first.
The other day I had a guy freak out at me and start yelling at me that it was total BS that an oscar would require a 75 gallon aquarium. He became even more angry once he found out that I would not be sending the oscar home with him for his 30 gal. (We can refuse the sale of any live animal if we dont feel it is goin to a good home)
Had the girl bag them up for travel. She looked at me funny when I said seperetly. So theres to great help right there.
Thankfully though the girl at the register mentioned something. "You know you can't keep two male bettas together." I thanked her and mentioned the other girl and asked she educate her. She seemed kinda surprised.

pretty sure everybody sells 'em in the tiny cups ... whenever I buy a betta, I don't even have them bag it, I just take the little betta cup and put it in the cup holder of my car ... fits perfectly ...
One of my lfs has their bettas in little tanks but most have them in the cups. Anyway i need to vent and cant think of a better place at the moment so i hope you all dont mind.
I had been refered to a petstore a bit down the road from the normal lfs i go to and was shocked and saddened at the condition of the fish. They had several oscars in ten gallon tanks that couldnt turn around they were so big and a gorgeous 1' pleco in maybe a 40 gallon tank with 30 little goldfish looking things. $25 for the plec but sadly he wouldnt be happy in my boyfriends 55 which is the largest we have right now. But the worst was the poor little pleco at the end row. He was missing an eye and covered in green fuzz. When i asked one of the employes what he had they just told me he was a special kind of hairy/fuzzy pleco and very rare. It shocked me that someone could ignore and try to sell a fish in such a horrible condition.
could be it used to be better, before the economy went south ... there is a place near me that two years ago was a nice little LFS ... now, it's a house of horrors ...
