Favorite LFS "CUSTOMER" STORIES ...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
All too common. I've seen so many people keeping big fish in tiny tanks, never doing water changes, even had one guy tell me I was trying to "scam" him for trying to sell him Prime because our "tap water is great!"

I worked at a PetCo managing the aquatic department (I fixed up that dept. big time, so no PetCo rips :) )

I had a guy, probably 16-17, asked for feeder goldfish. I asked how many he wanted, he said "I don't care". I told him "that's fine, I can scoop all 200 out for you, just give me a minute..."
He settled on 5.

He came in the next day for more feeders and I was there. One of my coworkers paged me and told me that he and his friends go out to the parking lot and throw them, step on them, and so forth. Loaded gun, I approached him.

I asked him what he was feeding to which he said whatever BS he said (don't remember).

I then said, "so we never saw you throwing these around in the parking lot after you bought them the other day, right?"

He had an 'oh ****' look on his face, but remained defiant.

I told him he wasn't getting his feeders today, to which he told me I couldn't do that.
I said "I am the manager, and I have the right to refuse service"

He left.

WHAT A MORON

I was chatting with my buddy who works at the LFS by me and asked him of any memorable stories, to which he replied...

A woman walked in, and walked up to me (after passing through our fish section) and asked.... "Do you carry tropical fish?" :wall:

ps - the front of the store has a HUGE sign saying "Tropical fish sale!"

I was in Petco this morning and heard an almost identical conversation.

Lady: "I'm setting my tank back up and want some guppies"
LFS: "Do you have all the equipment you need? Lights, Heater, and other stuff?"
Lady: "What's a heater? I have a filter."
LFS: "It would be another cord that gets plugged in. Looks like a glass tube."
Lady: "Um, I think so. Is it inside the filter?"

:screwy:

Are you sure you don't work at the Petco in South Reno, NV? :grinno:

In her defense, I usd to have a penguin power filter that had a built in heater that sat in front of the bio wheel.

i had a couple come in about a week and a half ago that wanted to buy 2 oscars for an uncycled 30 gallon, i explained all the necessary stuff, that 2 oscars are gonna need a big tank minimum about 125 gallon, lots of filters, etc. so they want em anyways, and im like well ur not getting a live guarantee on those then (been informed to do that in cases where people won't listen) so they're like okay we'll shop a little more. so they waited for me to go help someone out of view, went to the girl working with me told her they were getting a 125 gallon tank and had a really well cycled 30 gallon, so 2 small oscars would be fine and made sure they got their live guarantee. well, they came back in the other day with both dead looking for their refund. I just walked away, i was working with the same girl so i let her deal with it. what do they do? buy a BIGGER oscar, and she gave em a guarantee again, i was pissed as hell.

last "funny" thing I overheard was a mother and son that were really interested in purchasing a male and female betta and having them breed (right before x-mas). I guess being taught how they are "completely incompatible" with anything else and should be condemned for life to live in a plastic cup that breeding betta's was "impossible" for them to do. Not hard, but "impossible" they kept asking for information (which I respected the lady for wanting to learn) and was just getting pounded by the girl, who it was quite obvious from her answers was talking out of her arse, kept telling her it couldnt be done. I was actually there with my 17yr old nephew who had just given me his male betta the month before(he's an idiot and kept mumbling "liar" under his breath (to my embarrassment and enjoyment), which I had successfully, and very easily bred since then after some quick research online. I had actually done it 2 yrs ago to by accident having the male and female in separate containers, the male built the bubble nest, I put the female in, he wrapped around her, they shake, they look dead, eggs fall, male snaps out of it first and gathers fallen eggs female snaps out shortly after, rinse repeat. Anyway *breath* this was the first time I ever just approached someone (after the staff girl left) and gave my $.02 on the subject. Saw her at a petsmart again last week were she thanked me and told me that they have already bred and how much her son enjoys them.
