my local fish store -

tried to explain that a tsn only grows to 18" ..

tried to sell a 8"JD rescue , as a RED TEXAS ..(actually got them to change the ID )...

and when I asked if he knew what breed cichla I was purchasing .. he said "" yes .. south american "" :D

he also swears he has best price on fx5's at $436.00:grinno: ..

I dont shop there , unless i cant find what i need anywhere else .. but sometimes i just go there to get a laugh .. (it seems to annoy him when i question his methods of business:ROFL:)

i pronounce it "Chiclids" not sure why, I just do...
i can honestly say that out of all the people who say "Chiclids" I know the most about them

While at my local Walmart (I know) I saw they had BB gobies and MUCH cheaper than anywhere else. So I decided I wanted a couple. I find an associate and point to the tank I want my fish from. She just starts filling up a bag with tap water. I had to explain to her that you can't do that. At some point another associate walks up and just starts netting up fish asking "is this the one you want" with the fish in the air. :irked: I had to go through the cabinets and find the HOB container, and a fresh bag. I had to explain the whole process to these people while they stood there with all I can help but call it is the "blinky stare". The guy seemed like he wanted to help but proceeded to grab water from a totally different tank. I had to explain that you can't use tap water nor just any old tank water. Plus the water he was grabbing looking like a tetra tank full of ick. I took the container and emptied it got fresh water from the goby tank, picked my fish and netted it out myself. I wrote the bar code and qty on the bag. Explained to them about not blowing into the bag because it will kill the fish. They stood they with the same blank stare as I walked off. *sigh* this is not the first time. I should have left the associate to stock dog food and did everything myself. In fact one time my husband did just that because we didn't want to end up with another BLINKER!

walmart runs on a central system meaning that all the tanks have the same water, so it probably would not have mattered which tank the associate got the water from.

recently i was at work and literally 5 mins before closing this couple comes in, little do i know that only one of them speaks english (barely). they ask me to help them get some fish, so i follow them to the feeder goldfish tank and listen to them talk back and forth to each other in spanish while pointing at the tank, after a few mins they point out the fish that they want all of you that work at a lfs know how much of a pita it is to get a single, specific, fish from a good sized feeder tank. so after a while i finally catch the fish and as im bagging it up they decide they want to get him a few friends i ask how many and they say around 40  so i get them the fish and when i hand them the huge bag full of orange they act all shocked at how many (let it be known that i am positive that they wanted this many, i heard them say 40 in both english and spanish) but they still want the fish, around this time i sense something i wrong so i ask how big the tank is, all he could say was that "its pretty big" :duh:

every time customers say that same phrase, it is just newbie-speak for "20 gallon".

I did not know that. I still did not want water from a tank that had ich on the fish, just to be safe. I have 3 very happy and healthy gobies that I am sure are glad I was in walmart that day.

As of late I am getting sick of the LFS in my area. They tell me something different each time I am in there. Like the guy trying to tell me since their dragon gobies live in fresh water at the pet store that they will never need brackish water.

This probally happens countless times a day but I was at the LFS the other day looking around at all the tanks. In walks this young couple and as there getting ready to pick out some saltwater fish the owner asks them what kind of set-up they have. They answer "it's a bowl about this big" I blurted out "oh boy" and sighed before I could restrain myself.

Thank god the owner talked them into some gold fish instead of the mandrin's, tangs and clowns they wanted.

:)
