I was at my local petland buying some crickets for my fish when some weird guy started asking an employee for goldfish. The employee started reasoning with the manager because the guy turned out to have a very small tank with no filter or anything. The manager ended up saying that it would be ok for now. When I asked the employee what size tank that guy has, she told me, "I didn't get that far yet." Anyway, the guy just kept mumbling about him wanting 3 nice comets.
People dont realize that an adult Comet variety Goldfish needs somewhere in the family of 75 gallons...:headshake

I have a girl come in tonight and ask for rosey reds, but when I go to bag them she says; but don't give me any small ones, or any of the big ones either. They were all within 1/4" of each other and about 3000 of them in there!

Maybe when young, but their excessive waste output really demands a pond. Or maybe a 200g. Of course, I've seen the odd giant in a thirty gallon looking great and growing old, so it's not impossible, but I'd never try it. My mom had a comet in a sixty and with weekly 30% changes, the nitrates were still around eighty! And he was only seven inches. Since they produce 3x the waste, it was like a 21" tropical fish... We gave him to a nice fish store.

if i had a dollar for every time someone comes into my LFS and says they want a Sucker fish; I'd be a millionaire :D

if it was m eid say "We dont carry Suckerfish. They are native coldwater fish which are never sold. However we do have Plecos."
IMO stores should onle sell smaller plecos...Ottocinclus, Clown plecos, BN Plecos, etc

well i'm sure there will be some fish rights people who flip out on me for allowing this but here's the story.

guy walks in and as typical just wants a dozen feeder goldfish so i start netting them out with him and his young son (maybe 3 or 4yr old) watching over.. then all of a sudden his son goes "daddy i want one", so his dad goes ok you can have one....then the boy sticks out his hand and asks if he can hold it, i look at the guy and he goes "is it ok " i tell him as long as he pays for it and hand the carrier thingy to the dad. he grabs a feeder out and hands it to his son who goes on to grab it,,, then put it in his pocket and walks away.. i found it kind of amusing but not near as amusing as the father's response which was while chuckling "haha o well, boys will be boys, he's going back to his mother's 2night anyway so it'll be a nice surprise for her"
