u kno how people complain about the correct way to pronounce things, well i just try to see how many times i can get them to say it. makes a boring job more fun. then i get "whats so funny look" sometimes i think they know and get mad but whatever its hilarious!

I have to agree Bog, but I also never trust a fishstore employee just wanting to make a sale. If I ask a question. and the person helping me doesn't know the answer. instead of blowing smoke up my rear end. admitting ignorance and asking another employee for the answer, or heading over to the books and saying "lets both find out" and offering suggestions and drawing from their own experiances as a fishkeeper. I dump over 100$ a month at my regular private shop instead of at the petco or petsmart tbh. because of the honesty I get more then anything else.

I don't know everything, and I don't expect anyone else to know everything.

but there are some times you just wanna shake your head.. and either laugh or cry.

I can related to this as i work in an LFS and say a customer wants somthing like silverdollars and they ask me if ones ok and i'll say 'to be honest they are a schooling fish and do better in groups, i dont want to sound like im trying to sell you somthing but id go with 3+)

i hate sounding like im a saleman

I do the same thing when some one thinks they need a bottler of Clarity ir Crystal Clear for their newly setup tank.

In defense of subterfuge, if someone does not know the answer to a simple question, we can assume we will need to make our own decisions in said store.

agreed.

I got another one.
I walk into one of my lfs's and, obviously, head straight to the fish section. There was a guy looking at the baby silver aros. He told the employee that he wanted one. This had to be the smartest dude i had ever seen workin at a fish store. He just didnt want to sell the guy the aro. He kept warning the guy that aros get huge, and he'll need a gigantic tank to care for it properly, etc. The guy just wasnt listening and kept telling the emplyee that his tank was very big. He may have given dimensions but i wasnt listening the whole time.
I wish employees like that worked at every store.

Of course, the employee that i had been talking to was different. No, i didnt ask him any questions that i already knew the answer to. I had never seen perruno cats before so i asked the guy how big they get. He says "hmm.. How big's your tank?". I say 38gals. He says, "probably about 8 inches in your tank." at that i just said thanks and walked away... When they say "in your tank" in a sentence lke that, its never good...
Good thing i didnt buy the perruno because when i got home i did some research and found that they get to 30+ inches.

i have breeding cynotilapia afras and i a called the LFS by my house if they could take them and the guy on the phone was a new guy and asked i dont know if we can sell them arnt they food he was a new guy so i let it slide he then asked if his boss if they could sell tilapia and she said no i proceed to tell him they were not tiliapia but cynotilapia a type of cichlid and i brought them in and got a fish for trade my cyno's breed like crazy so i get free fish all the time

I was in Meijer one time and i saw what looked like a sunfish and i took a double take and sure enough it was there were 3 or four of them it is illegal to sell them where i live so i bought it from them

I love how petsmart and walmart sell special fish:
petsmart-
pacus that get to 2'
snooks that get 8"
GTs that get 6"
bronze cories with a min. tank size of 1 gallon
iridescent sharks that get to 12" and can live in a 20gal tank
walmart-
special pacus that only get 10"!
iridescent sharks that get to 8"!

now if only i could find the rare dwarf aro that gets 12"..

sad part is, most people believe the little tags that give false info...
