Not a customer story, but I had a heck of a day at work today.

We have lots of other pets beside fish as well. While I was doing the morning cleanings and feedings today, a full grown (feeder) rat bit the-insert expletive of choice-out of me. I've been bit by plenty of other rodents (hamster just yesterday), but this was by FAR the worst. She bit to the BONE on my pinky finger and I couldn't get it to stop gushing blood for over an hour. Not fun!

If that wasn't enough, I did a waterchange on a tank where another employee complained of getting shocked. One of the heaters in the tank tripped the breaker yesterday, so I thought removing that fixed the problem. I had just added Coppersafe for some ich on a couple of the fish, which I'm guessing made the water more conductive, so when I put my hand back in the water as it was refilling, I found out the OTHER heater was also broken, and nearly fell of the small stepladder I was on when it shocked the heck out of me.
wow tough day

He probably let them go on his ex-girlfriends front porch :naughty:

Stereotypes aren't going away anytime soon, and unfortunately some people are just too stupid or close minded to even try to educate. But I have to admit I still try. But, most people can't seem to figure out each other, much less figure out something even more foreign.

In Japan I kept having "Channel 2" and "Baywatch" screamed at me. I finally figured out what's on channel 2... Pornography. I was 15, and decided at that point to just keep my blonde hair pulled up under a bandanna.

Or better yet, hang out in Los Angeles for a little while, and you can see the stereotyping happening down there. Gang warfare between races, or just between gangs for living on the wrong street. Now they deserve the blood thirsty label...And people so often think we are so much better than animals...

So, all we can do is hopefully pound the information into some of these thick headed people that fish are not disposable paper decorations, that they are just doing what is instinctive for them to survive in their natural environment, and that fish do not grow to the size of their tank cause dead fish don't grow! Any time I see someone at petco or petsmart buying a fish I always butt in since 95% of employees don't have a clue about the fish they are selling. I've sold more mag-n-floats than I can remember and saved more plecos from getting sold as a window cleaner to someone with a 10 or 20 gallon tank. I need to invest in the mag-n-float company or start asking petsmart for a commission.
I cant believe that people would talk to you like that! Some people just dont have any respect these days :(

pretty funny... i wonder-would keeping a fish in a tub with a heater and filter work? (not that i am)

When i was a noob at fishkeeping i went to a lfs that had a tank of redtail botias, most of which had ich. I said, "is that ich?", which was an honest question, since i was a noob at the time. The guy working there said, "it might be."
honestly.... He should of said yes it is. Luckily my uncle had taken me there and he knew a lot about fishkeeping, and he said not to buy them.

I have no funny stories..Altho..I remember once someone in pets at home was looking for a BGK and I could see one in the tank and the clerk said ' oh theres none in here'

A frustrating story about a LFS but not exactly funny or anything pertains to a local store in Miami where I've tried to trade in fish, but since miami is big on SW, FW takes a back seat. So anyway I was trading in a pair of full grown F0 Herotilapia (rainbow cichlids) that I had gotten from Rapps earlier that year. I ask the owner if he would give me store credit, and I showed him the fish, and their background (f0 rainbow are hard to find I would say) and he's like "oh just another brown cichlid, I'll give you 2 bucks each" and I did, as at the time I couldn't keep them. Ironically, I used the money to get some blind cave tetras (favorite aquarium fish of mine!). anyway, I understand those fish weren't particularly valuable, but they'll sell some pretty common fish for unusually high prices when it comes to FW. And that just bothers me
